Schools out for summer!!
The flowers this weekend are romantic, ruffly, feminine, fragrant and just plain fancy in a #cottagecore way. The perfect treat for yourself as you embark on the start of summer holidays. They look perfectly in place at the cottage š„°
The roadside #farmstand is open today (Friday) until 8pm.
With all the rain in store Iām doubtful it will be open on Saturday so make sure you swing by today as there are no guarantees that there will be anything left for Sunday.
This weekend we have:
šø mixed bouquets in jars with snapdragons, poppies, sweet peas and more
šøsweet pea straight bunch (the smell on these! š„°)
šølavender bunches (currently the variety āMelissaā which is a lovely white with tinge of pink. More traditional coloured lavender bunches are coming soon!)
šø mixed bouquet of only native flowers! This isnāt one youāll find in any florist shops.
š± St. Johnās wort bunches (medicinal herb)
š± Liatris cups (native plant, very well behaved in a traditional environment)
š§ garlic scapes
š1.5km east of the Oshawa zoo (1503 regional rd 3, Hampton) just before Langmaid rd.
šµ Cash or E-transfer only
Sitting in the rain, grumbling to my flowers about the šæļø and their efforts to undermine my own, while also being in awe of the perfection of the moment. Gardening is a journey!
The amount of adapting and learning, and it never ends!! The reality is, someone whoās good at gardening has usually killed or lost a lot of plants. (Hi, itās me šš¼āāļø) To their own error. To pests. To weather. To disease.
The fact that we can carve out a slice of earth, say āI want this hereā and make it happen, despite all the variables is actually pretty incredible when you think about it!
So if your garden isnāt growing like you hoped, itās ok. You can always swing by and enjoy some of my flowers or veggies while you wait for your own to come in š„° (so long as the bunnies and chipmunks donāt ramp up their efforts over hereā¦š).
The stand will be stocked again for this weekend! Weāre 1.5km east of the Oshawa zoo.

Me attempting to hand model with scapes and eventually giving up and just being myself š
Itās garlic scape season!! Theyāll be available at the roadside stand this weekend. A big handful for $5. (Heck if you only possess little hands you could even take 2 handfuls š)
If youāve never tried these before they are like a thicker spring onion with the flavour of garlic but less āspicyā. They grill up on the bbq really well, and make for a great flavoured butter or scape pesto. Like fiddleheads they are a very seasonal item and arenāt available the rest of the year.

Itās a **we needed this** kind of rain. š
The most beautiful misty morning in the garden. So many birds. A frog. And sooooo many mosquitoes. Ughhh.
I love having the garden beside wetlands (but on top of a hill wetlands, so also no real flooding concerns!) because I rarely have watering concerns butā¦ š¦
Mosquito dunks are on the shopping list today to see if they can make summers a bit more enjoyable back here.
Other than succession planting and hardening off some cuttings, I think I have everything in the ground that I wanted to have back here! And in time for this perfect summer rain to water it all in for me. I cannot wait to start harvesting!! š„³š„³
Now on to get the newest #nativeplant bed into place!

What did #Durhamregion get to wake up to today?
4-6ā of perfect packing snow!
After 2 days of some extremely strong winds, and a lot less rain then promised by the weather oracles, we woke up to a very ātouched by Elsaā (as my 3 year old describes it) landscape. The wall of #lilacs is exceptionally pretty in the #snow.
I thought I might be getting my #ranunculus & #sweetpeas into the ground this week, but that plan is currently on hold.
Have no fear! Your garlic, spring bulbs, pansies (assuming you hardened them off), and shrubs will be ok so long as you donāt go mucking about touching them. The snow is heavy though so any woodies that may bend or be misshapen, you could gently knock the snow off.
Try to remember that stress = strength. So generally Iām a hands off gardener but I know the itch to help your garden along can be strong.
