Music Shapes New Glasgow An annual concert series that brings stellar Nova Scotia musicians to the Celtic Circle and Glasgow

Celebrating its fifth year, Music Shapes New Glasgow brings a wide range of artists to venues in Downtown New Glasgow between April 4th and 30th. From the nationally renowned touring duo Cindy Church & Susan Crowe, to the locally grown Gabrielle Papillon and Layne Greene, who are each releasing highly anticipated new albums, to a unique collaboration between singer/songwriter Don Brownrigg and the

NSCAD-New Glasgow Artists in Residence Jason Desnoyers and Karolina-Anna Hajna, to a song circle, featuring Canadian Folk Music award nominee Ashley Condon, Decota McNamara and local Trevor Stanley, there’s something for everyone. As in previous years, the Town of New Glasgow’s Glasgow Square Theatre and The Celtic Circle host the series. But this year a third venue has been added: the NSCAD Community Residency Studio, located at 182 Dalhousie Street behind the Pictou-Antigonish Regional Library and the New Glasgow Fire Station, hosts a concert and artist talk that will debut new works created in a specially commissioned collaborative project by songwriter Don Brownrigg and ceramic artists Desnoyers and Hajna. Music Shapes New Glasgow 2015 continues partnerships with local businesses and community groups, including Eventide Art Hub and East Coast FM 94.1. The Music Shapes New Glasgow series kicks off with a double album release show from Layne Greene and Gabrielle Papillon and their full bands. Papillon’s appearance at Glasgow Square on April 4th will be followed by featured slots at festivals in Toronto and her debut tour in the UK. Pictou County’s Layne Greene joins her to release his much anticipated debut album, produced by Dale Murray (Christina Martin). Local music legend Doris Mason opens for returning favourites Cindy Church & Susan Crowe at The Celtic Circle on April 16th. NSCAD Artists in Residents Jason Desnoyers and Karolina-Ann Hajna present new ceramic works made in collaboration with Nova Scotia Music Award winning songwriter Don Brownrigg on April 24th at the NSCAD-New Glasgow Community Residency Studio. The series closes on April 30th at the Glasgow Square Green Room with PEI’s country/folk export Ashley Condon whose recent album was produced by Juno-winner David Francey. Ashley is joined by folk/traditional player Decota McNamara and local emerging songwriter/singer Trevor Stanley.

“Music Shapes New Glasgow continues to expand to bring new cultural experiences to Pictou County residents,” says Carmel Mikol, one of the Music Shapes Series organizers. “We want to entertain, to educate, and to inspire. And our exciting 2015 lineup certainly delivers on all these fronts.”

“We’re very excited to be able to expand the series to include the NSCAD- New Glasgow Community Residency Studio this year, and involve our fantastic artists in residence in New Glasgow”, says Carlton Munroe, Programs/Events Manager for the Town of New Glasgow. “Music Shapes New Glasgow was built on partnerships, and it’s so positive to see more partnerships formed each year.”

The Music Shapes New Glasgow series is also supported by Music Nova Scotia’s “Bringin’ It Home” community presenter’s funding program, enabling the concert series to bring top talent to New Glasgow during the shoulder season. New Glasgow Mayor Barrie MacMillan says, “We are very pleased to build the Music Shapes New Glasgow series with many community partners and this talented line up of entertainers and artists. New Glasgow are Pictou County are fast becoming a cultural centre for music and art to service northern Nova Scotia and beyond.”
