North of 49 Photography www.Northof49photography.com has been guiding clients across Canada for years on what some people call the best photography workshops offered in Canada.

My name is Chris Pepper a Professional Photographer based in Ontario, Canada. Northof49photography offers photography tours and workshops for photography enthusiasts that want to explore all that Canada has to offer. From the western shores of Vancouver Island, to the lighthouses on the eastern coast of Nova Scotia, each tour and workshop was designed with the photographer in mind. On our website

you will find more information on these individual tours and workshops, our Professional Photographers that lead our groups and our pricing and booking procedures. Photo Tours and Workshops

To us, there is an important difference between a workshop and a photo tour that you should be aware of. A photo tour is led by a professional photographer for experienced photographers. You already know how to use your camera and you just want a local expert photographer to show you the best places to photograph, at the best times of day, but still be available to answer any questions you may have. Our tours are not fixed to a schedule and are designed to get the serious photographer the shots they want to get, when they want to get them. A photo workshop has a learning structure where you can learn basics on photography, composition, digital darkroom and workflow in some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world. Workshops have more defined daily itineraries, including editing sessions, to ensure you learn all aspects of photography.

Spring bird migration seems to be starting a few weeks ahead of schedule with the warm weather. We have enjoyed watching a yellow-rumped warbler at our feeder for the last 4 days. I’m sure he’s regretting his current life decisions with the minus temps over night. But it makes our viewing quite often for how much it feeds to keep its fat reserves up. Common loons are stacking up in the Great Lakes getting ready to fly back to their summer homes once the ice is out. 👌

Lots of woodpeckers, small birds and waterfowl starting the early migration in Ontario. It will only be a matter of time until somebody we know starts getting a little loon-ey 🤙 Looking forward to a new season!

We had a very successful eagle and owls workshop in BC last week. Lots of aerial battle of owls trying to take over hunting grounds. Tons of close flybys while hunting. In total we saw 11 Short Eared Owls hunting the fields.

What felt like an eternity was nothing more than a mere blink, we are back!!! Why not just start the day with a coffee in hand, fog dropping down the mountains, eagle 50 feet to our right on the tree top. I yearned for this for far to long, the daily stress, the lack of sleep, the pressure to put people in the right place everyday. But it’s mornings like this, only 4 hours of sleep after photographing the northern lights last night. To find 3 awake with ear to ear smiles off the back deck enjoying the start of the day. Somebody, anybody, please send me more coffee to Yukon 😂

The right place, at the right time, offers the best rewards in life! But if you never try to put yourself in the right place, rewards rarely come to you🤙

First light creeping in on a drake Northern pintail. These ducks are called a pintail because of the central elongated tail feathers. The Northern pintail is one of the most numerous duck species found in the world next to a mallard.
