So I went to the grocery store for milk today and wandered through the floral section. As I scanned the bouquets I couldn’t help but think about comments I’ve heard about cut flowers in the past. “I don’t buy flowers - they just die”. Honestly, I could kind of relate to this feeling as I saw what was available. You could tell everything was beautiful at some point, but that might have been long before it arrived at the store. No wonder some people have a bias against buying flowers. Makes me proud of the quality we produce and the experience we bring to growing varieties that give our customers the absolute best experience. It filled my sails and got me so excited for the season ahead.

So — local grown, seasonal flowers — are you a convert or on the fence??

I can’t help but feel drawn to this palette. It might be my favourite photo from this season (thank you for capturing my flowers so beautifully!). I’ve shown it to a few people recently as I reminisce about the beauty that’s passed through our farm. The question that inevitably follows is: Do you do wedding flowers? A fair question for sure….. but it also makes me wonder: are romantic soft palettes only for weddings and events? Can’t they light your heart on fire any old time, on any ordinary day? Why do we see something gorgeous and immediately relegate it to “only for special occasions “?. I’m in camp: soft beauty is for any old day. That’s why you’ll see these soft tones throughout my work even at the farmers market. So which camp are you in?

This one was just for me. I was feeling a little off earlier in the week, and I’ve been learning that it means I need to get out of the house and do something for myself. So I filled a bucket with water and grabbed my snips to go enjoy the flowers - instead of working in them. I cut little bits and bobs, and brought them into the kitchen to rest in water. The next day I got inspired to make an arrangement. It was fun and made me realize I need to play in the flowers a lot more than I do. So this is my ode to the first dahlias of our season (yep you read that right). The next couple of weeks will be filled with their blooms!!

So what do we think about these muddy moody colour palettes? Love ‘em, hate ‘em? Indifferent? I’m growing three “muddy” coloured lisianthus this year and need to decide if they’re making the cut for next year 😉.

We’re back!!! Weather and health kept me away from the market for the last month, but our flowers have rebounded and we are so happy to be back at the today!!! We have tons of gorgeous lisianthus and mixed bouquets for you to take home!!

So here’s a little ditty I worked on over the holidays. It’s filled with lots of goodies saved and dried from the farm. The gorgeous lunaria was a gift from my neighbour. If you look closely you’ll even see some luscious peonies! So are dried flowers your vibe? Love them, hate them? Think I should make more wreaths?

I took a lovely break from social media over the holidays - it felt so good to detach and concentrate on our family and a peaceful rest. Our time wasn’t all comfort though. For about two weeks our central heat was down and we were lighting our stove heater and using electric heaters around the house. We would turn everything off overnight and temps would dive to 14C by the morning. Let’s just say, I was wrapped in a blanket, with a hot magic bag on my lap for a while there! Thankfully our heat was repaired last week and I have NEVER appreciated the basic necessity (luxury) of a warm home more than I do now. These dried flowers and the warm light surrounding them emulates the gratitude I feel for being safe and warm on these cold winter days. How were your holidays?
