I opened Events by Whim for so many reasons—I love the challenge, the creativity, and the incredible people I get to work with. My heart is in service, and even my name means “wise helper.” More than anything, I wanted a life where I never had to ask permission to be there for the people who need me most.

A blank canvas is full of possibility—just like the kitchen table before my grandmother set it for Sunday lunch. She didn’t need much to make a meal feel special. A single dish, cooked with love, could carry more warmth than a whole spread. That’s how I see a minimal tablescape with one perfect lush floral arrangement. It’s about the intention behind it. Because sometimes, the simplest details leave the biggest impression.

You’ll never convince me that bright colours can’t be timeless—I simply can’t live in a world without them.

Maybe it’s because I’ve always been a mix of things. Born and raised in Toronto to Guyanese parents, my life has never fit into one neat box. I grew up eating both chicken curry and poutine, listening to Bollywood, soca, reggae, and 90s pop—sometimes all in the same car ride. I’ve never had to choose between cultures, and I think that’s why I love vibrant colours so much. They don’t just sit quietly; they blend, contrast, and come together in the most beautiful way—just like my life, just like the weddings I design.

We’re dancing into 2025 with a new look and feel that marries our love of design with a subtle but important nod to our shared Caribbean heritage.

Late in 2024 we soft launched a new website and branding that better reflects the type of work we do in the wedding and event industry. We’ve designed and planned weddings across Canada, the Caribbean, and now in Europe - how amazing is that?! If someone had told me that we’d be scouting venues in Mallorca, Crete and Tobago back when I first started in the industry I’d have been speechless.

During our 10 years, more and more we’ve started working closely with our couples and corporate clients to design their events using a holistic storytelling approach from the ground up. While event planning is still a huge part of what we do, we wanted to shift more emphasis onto our design process.

At heart, we’re storytellers and caretakers of important moments and we’re so excited to share that vision with you all. Let us know what you think of our new look!

Would you think I’m crazy if I said that as a team we treat every wedding as a fusion wedding?

Our team’s collective Caribbean heritage impacts how we do business and how we plan events. Each of us is a product of fusion given that we’ve grown up culturally influenced by our background but also by the world around us in Toronto.

I was the only one in my immediate family born in Canada, so my experiences often felt like a blend of different worlds. Sometimes, what I saw outside my home was very different from what I was taught at home. This could be confusing, but it has also become one of my greatest strengths. I connect really well with couples who have mixed backgrounds because I understand what it’s like to see the world from different perspectives. I know what it’s like to embrace different parts of myself and my culture and what it’s like to consciously choose to reject other parts.

This way of thinking helps us create weddings that tell the story of our couples. So this is why I say that every wedding is a fusion of sorts - blending two lives, two families and different viewpoints of the world requires thoughtful planning and design. It’s never just about one person or one side. This thoughtful consideration makes the celebrations more special and creates a memorable experience for the couple, their families, and guests.
