We had the pleasure of creating a custom Unicorn birthday styled shoot for baby Isla’s first birthday. A pastel themed candy and dessert table set up featuring @guerdoocakes took center stage. Isla reveled in the custom unicorn piñata and mom and dad soaked up the sun and sand with their sweet baby for a family photo session. Hosting a party? Here are 8 ways to level up your party. 1. Elevate your table with an edible table runner in the theme of your event. 2. Layer paper plates at each place setting in an artful way. Leave a gust favour on the plates to add colour or special interest. 3. Set out a low rise picnic table setting on carpets for an intimate and cozy setting 4. WOW with a bold and show stopping dessert display backdrop. Play with paper. It doesn’t need to be expensive. 5. Center kids parties around a central interactive element like decorating their own sugar cookie. Decorate the main table with the prepared cookies for a wow factor! 6. When in doubt, always add a balloon garland! It is a fairly inexpensive way to add drama and a take away for kids. 7. Make a feature photo display that doubles as a nursery feature. 8. Display food artfully. Instead of trays, bowls and plates, use the table surface as if it is one huge platter. Use crates, boxes or risers to maximize surface and create interest in your display. A unicorn and rainbow themed party never gets old if you ask me. I mean, can it get any cuter? This theme has so much potential to please with numerous design options. How do you start? We suggest looking online for what currently exists in stores in your theme. What colours are available? Are there any decor items that you adore? Choosing palettes that are hard to find and require customizing just creates more resistance than necessary. Once you have chosen a colour palette that is tangible, decide on your budget and what you will be offering. Will your party revolve around a meal? Will there be a primary activity focus? For our unicorns and rainbow party, the main focus was crafting personalized sugar cookies so our energy was centered around the main tablescape. Since the guests were 3-4yrs old, we made the table easy to access by choosing a low rise picnic table. Each guest had their own decorating station displayed on a painters palette. Balloons are always a great design choice for young kids. They are versatile, impactful and can be taken home for each kid to enjoy. Next up, our focus was on an Unicorns + Rainbows dessert table spread, using the main colour palette of choice. We finished the theme off with a teepee rented area for open play, a custom unicorn piñata and of course unicorn gift bags full of crafts and goodies! All in all, I would say that these girls quite enjoyed their party experience full of creating, sugar and open play. What part is your favorite? This past June I had the extreme pleasure of bringing Urvashi and Zach’s colourful Indian fusion wedding to life at the naturally gorgeous @farmhillweddings. The busy couple needed help streamlining traditional Indian rituals into a shorter timeframe and most untraditionally of all, in an unexpected and notably Canadiana venue. I couldn’t be more honored to be chosen to put their Old World Indian vibe to life! This down-to-earth couple wanted to ensure that their guests felt appreciated and loved. Guests from all over the world came to celebrate and so it was of utmost importance that they enjoyed themselves with great food, Indian traditions and lots of dance! The colourful marigolds paid tribute to traditional Hindu weddings, representing the sun and bringing positive energy to the newlyweds. We combined them with pink carnations and gorgeous antique brass relics from the Hindu temple that were so generously lent to us. Dabs of tropical leaves and fruits were layered onto the tablescapes and in other vignettes to add texture and colour. The Old World Indian elements beautifully juxtaposed against the natural and modern architecture of the farm. One of my most favourite custom concepts to date was the TerraCotta guest seating chart installations. Each guest name was printed in vinyl on the @cricut and adhered onto a hand painted vase. The overall look came to life beautifully! Last but certainly not least was the tropical and colourful Mandap design. Despite the wedding day being insanely windy, our team managed to get hundreds of strung marigolds, fabric sweeps and woven baskets hung in “place”. It was a nail biter to watch each gust of wind test our installation techniques but it was simultaneously magical. ✨ Urvashi and Zach enjoyed each and every second surrounded by the people they love AND miraculously we were able to stay on time with the back to back schedule we had created!
