During the first International Fishermen’s Race series in the fall of 1920, the Lunenburg schooner DELAWANA was defeated by the Gloucester schooner ESPERANTO. Shortly after, it was determined that a new vessel was to be built specifically to challenge the Americans in the 1921 series 🇨🇦🇺🇸
Designing Bluenose -
The goal:
— to design a vessel with a large enough hold, which will be successful in the Banks fishery
— which will also be fast, upwind and downwind, to successfully challenge for the International Fishermen’s Cup
The challenge:
— create a design that can do both
