NOW more than ever, visiting your dental hygienist for periodontal therapy is of utmost importance! Research shows that when oral bacteria is out of balance, there is an increased risk not only to your overall health, but to COVID risk and severity. This is an EXCELLENT overview by Dr. Victoria Sampson, DDS and researcher from the UK. As outlined in a recent, June 26th 2020 publication in the British Dental Journal, Dr. Victoria Sampson explains that over 50% of severe COVID-19 patients died with a secondary bacterial superinfection. She further discusses that poor oral hygiene and bacterial overgrowth should be considered a risk to post viral complications particularly in patients who are already predisposed to altered biofilm associated with diabetes, hypertension or heart disease. To all of our Dental Team Followers! There has never been a more appropriate time to introduce bacterial testing into your periodontal assessment protocols as a COVID-19 pandemic standard of care!

As outlined in a recent, June 26th 2020 publication in the British Dental Journal entitled: "Could there be a link between oral hygiene and the severity of SARS-CoV-2 infections?", Dr. Victoria Sampson, DDS and researcher explains that over 50% of severe COVID-19 patients died with a secondary bacterial superinfection. She further discusses that poor oral hygiene and bacterial overgrowth should be considered a risk to post viral complications particularly in patients who are already predisposed to altered biofilm associated with diabetes, hypertension or heart disease.

Join in on the reply with "RDH View" cast, Kathleen Bokrossy, Beth Parkes, Anna Louise Tolan and Kerry Lepicek as they discuss the rationale and benefits of bacterial testing with Dr. Jim Hyland, Lorraine Gambacourt RDH and Kerry Lepicek, RDH (lso a View Cast member) Lets help our clients reduce their risk to COVID-19 and its complications! https://hosting.epresence.tv/bcreative/2/Watch/476.aspx

Is COVID-19 a Blood-Vessel Disease?
AMY DONEEN JUNE 4, 2020 HEART HEALTH NEWS

Originally thought to be a respiratory disease, COVID-19 is now known to attack the body from head to foot, causing everything from strokes and heart attacks to deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism and even painfully red or purple “Covid toes.” All of these potential complications of the new coronavirus have something in common: They stem from vascular disorders, such as blood clots, blood-vessel inflammation and/or impaired blood circulation. What’s more, about 40 percent of COVID-19 fatalities are linked to cardiovascular complications. Read full article here, including how ACE inhibitors may help protect against serious complications in people with COVID-19.
