🌱 Growing Together: A Community Impact CSR Project 🌱
Earlier this year, as part of a larger event our visiting client asked us to design a corporate social responsibility program focused on meaningful community impact in Halifax, where their conference was being held. The housing crisis in our province is something we would love to see solved and it’s at the top of the list of things we consider to be the most important at issue to tackle.
And so, we approached Out of the Cold, a low-barrier shelter serving the Halifax and Dartmouth areas, to discuss their needs and how we could help. Together we decided on a gardening project to restore their raised vegetable gardens at both their Halifax and Dartmouth locations.
The gardens, many of which were damaged by snow plows over the winter, are vital in supplying fresh produce to the shelter’s kitchens, providing healthier meals for residents. With help from Halifax Seed, who generously donated their expertise and countless hours of support, we set out to rebuild the destroyed garden beds and beautify the space with flower boxes.
On CSR day, the conference attendees split into teams and worked across both sites to plant vegetables and flowers, clean up the sites, set up donated items like a BBQ and rain barrels and water hoses, and put together personalized gift bags for every resident.
This collaborative project fostered teamwork and a strong connection to the local community.
The initiative was more than just a gardening project—it was about making a lasting, positive impact on the lives of local residents.
The feedback we received post-event was incredible, with attendees saying things like, “It was a very humbling experience,” and “I would love to do something like this in every city we visit.”

We transformed the Scotiabank Centre into Point Pleasant Park at night, complete with real trees, shrubbery, and a supermoon suspended over 1200 guests who dined and danced the night away under the moonlight.

We only do WOW!

With huge gratitude to our amazing event manager Jill Ostien and our partners and suppliers Chop Steakhouse and Gahan Nova Centre for hosting that evening’s reception, to Scotiabank Centre for allowing us to create the event space of our dreams, and to Golden Dog Productions, Encore Global, Halifax Convention Centre, Serpentine Studios and Vox Agency for making the evening such a success.

For awhile, we wondered if getting to 2022 would be possible.
Last evening as I sat in the space we transformed into a luxury yacht and listened to Steven Page warm up I had a moment.
We made it through. With the support of many local companies, clients, friends and family, positive thinking, creative positioning, and staying steady, we made it! And then some.
What a feeling that was, sitting there and seeing this night come to life after planning for 2.5 years.
The team has knicknamed the company S.S. FP,- (sometimes a yacht, sometimes a tug, motorboat, or steamship).
We’ve grown, we are gaining considerable speed, and we are going to win the race that is 2022!
And, we will give as many local businesses, partners and suppliers, as much support and contracts as we can. It’s the FREE PEOPLE way. We want our community and industry to thrive right along with us.
Anchors aweigh!

The importance of choosing the right venue and space for your group is integral to the experience.
This is one of the very first steps in collaboration with clients and desired goals. Retreats require particular consideration. How can the destination and venue support those objectives? What external experiences do you want to integrate and be available to participants? How closely can we find a match between physical space and program content?
3 days on the shores of Nova Scotia in October was just perfect for a high level personal development program in Integral Facilitation. Content mixed with peace and beauty allows for assimilation.
We would love to help you find that special place where practicality meets magic.
