DEEP IN ARTISTIC FLOW - Kindly do not interrupt!

I love having visitors! But for the next couple months if you see this on my door please do not take offense! I truly do lack the self-discipline to turn you away and I will invite you in! Help me get my work done by staying away! ... unless we planned a visit , then ring the door bell . lol. 😆

Thank you! 🙃

Excited to Paint Your Windows?

My students were so excited about the idea of painting their own windows after today’s workshop! I wanted to share a few tips and reminders from our painting experience to help you create beautiful window art and achieve great results.

Here Are Some Tips and Reminders!

How Today’s Practice Differs from Painting Your Windows at Home:
1. Using Permanent Markers:
Today, we used permanent markers to outline our designs. This method is great for practice only and ensures you don’t lose your outline. At home, you can use acrylic paint and a fine brush for outlining, go freestyle, or try alternatives like window chalk markers, which are specifically designed for glass surfaces and clean off effortlessly with a damp cloth.

2. Layering for Double-Sided vs. One-Sided Images:
We spoke about techniques for creating both one-sided and double-sided designs:
- For Double-Sided Images: Work foreground to background, starting with small details and layering larger shapes behind them. Let each layer dry completely before adding the next to ensure your design looks great from both sides.
- For One-Sided Images: Begin by covering your design with a white silhouette base layer. Once dry, paint as you would on a canvas, starting with the background and larger shapes, then moving to smaller details. This makes your design bold and opaque for viewers on one side.

3. Paint Type and Removal:
We used water-based paints in today’s workshop, which are easy to work with bright and removable. At home, if you’re working with children, consider adding a small amount of dish soap to the paint. This makes cleanup easier while still allowing for vibrant designs. Alternatively, you might try window chalk markers, which provide a softer, clean looking finish and are easy to clean off with a damp cloth.

And when the time comes to remove your artwork, I’ve included the best method for cleaning your windows without any hassle. 😊

Cleaning the Window After Painting
1. Prepare Your Tools:
Gather glass cleaner (such as vinegar water, which is pet-safe, or store-bought Windex), paper towels, a glass-safe scraper, and an old towel to place on the window ledge to catch drips. Keep a garbage can nearby for easy disposal of paint and used materials.
2. Spray the Glass:
Generously spray your chosen glass cleaner over the painted areas. Allow it to sit for a minute or two to soften the paint. This will help the paint shrink and ripple away from the glass, making it easier to remove.
3. Scrape the Paint Off:
Using a glass-safe scraper, carefully remove the paint from the surface. Work in small sections, applying more window cleaner to dry areas as needed.
4. Wipe and Collect:
Use paper towels to wipe away loosened paint as you work with your scraper. Dispose of the paint and paper towels regularly to keep the area clean and manageable.
5. Final Wash:
Once the majority of the paint is gone, wash the window as you normally would using your chosen glass cleaner and a lint-free cloth for a spotless finish. Be careful not to smudge the paint onto your window ledge and frames.
6. Dispose of Waste:
Place all used paper towels, scraper residue, and any other waste into the garbage can to keep your workspace tidy.
(Tip: Vinegar water is a great eco-friendly option for cleaning, especially for households with pets and children. While Windex is promoted to provide a stronger, fast-acting solution, it does roughly the same quality of finish as vinegar water.)

Happy painting!
Creatively Yours, Tracy Barry

A Special Project for Lumi

I’m so excited to share this project I just finished!

Lumi has a favorite toy—a classic spring-mounted riding horse. This toy has been loved for many years, but all that love had left it completely worn out. Its once-beautiful paint was gone, the light brown finish had faded to dull, weathered plastic, and even the shine in the horse’s eyes had disappeared.

When her mom picked up the horse, she dreamed of bringing it back to life, and I was thrilled to take on the challenge. Over the past few months, between our busy schedules, I carefully painted the horse, bringing back its vibrant colors and restoring some of the charm it had lost.

It was important to me that Lumi could still play with her horse throughout the process, so after every stage of painting, I made sure it was safe and ready for her to ride. The horse may not be fully restored, but it’s bursting with fresh colour and life, ready for Lumi to enjoy as much as ever.

The finishing touch is coming soon—her parents have purchased a brand-new mane and tail for the horse, and they’ll be adding it on shortly! This little horse will look and feel as good as new, ready for Lumi’s next adventures.

There’s something so rewarding about bringing new life to something so meaningful, especially for a little one. Watching Lumi’s joy makes every bit of effort worthwhile.

Thank you to Lumi’s family for trusting me with this special project. Here’s to many more adventures for Lumi and her beloved horse! 🐴✨

Tracy Barry’s Bio

Tracy Barry is a visual artist from Northern Ontario. She specializes in creating paintings showcasing the beauty of Northern Ontario whether it be the majestic roots of a tree, the surreal calm of the water of the lake, or the breathtaking beauty of the Northern sky. In her subject matter, Tracy incorporates her upbringing in rural Rossport, Ontario. She creates her paintings in a way that evokes a memory, perhaps a time when the viewer may have encountered such a scene in real life.

Tracy’s artistic vision began to take shape through her sketches, which she started at the age of 10. She transitioned to oil painting in her teen years and later on in her 20's moved on to acrylics, which is her preferred medium. She has been a professional artist since 2010. What makes Tracy unique is that she produces thought provoking art. Her goal is to leave the viewer “wanting more”. In her painting she leaves room for interpretation by the viewer, thereby giving not only a unique visual representation, but also adding a philosophical element to her work.

Tracy prides herself on being a strong advocate for young entrepreneurs and not-for-profit
