Over the last couple of years, The Story from Hear has brought an incredible group of womyn media makers together. To be clear, registration is not limited to womyn, but that's just who have come. What has emerged is a supportive, decentralized feminist teaching model. And so, we are making it official: only people who identify as womyn, and or/feminist allies, need apply. We're taking this step because we found it incredibly empowering to engage in a deep form of listening, recording, creating, and sharing in a group able to unite around our common interests: respect for the land, respect for our differences, respect for each other, and respect for the sonic tapestry of the world.

I wanted to share a link to an audio story I did recently as part of Graduate Liberal Studies Program SFU. It's basically a short story that I wrote and voiced, with sound effects, imagining what would happen if characters from Sophocles' Antigone were magically transported to a grief support group in the basement suite of an east Vancouver home. It takes about 40 mins to listen to -- and if anyone has time to download it & listen, I'd welcome your feedback. Is it useful to consider ancient characters in a modern context? https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nvBog8dThhkJd9VWs09IRC8LwHV2D-2x/view?usp=sharing

Next weekend (Sept 7-9), Koksilah Music Festival will be hosting Indigenous and allied performers, artists and workshop leaders from around the Pacific Northwest and beyond at Providence Farm in Cowichan Bay.

The festival is a fundraiser for local Indigenous-led decolonization and land defense projects; in addition to supporting the Cowichan Elders Program, the festival proceeds will benefit the Unist'ot'en Camp, which has been stopping unwanted LNG projects in northern BC, and the Musgamagw Dzawada'enuxw Cleansing Our Waters, and Awinakola Warriors movements who recently occupied fish farms for nearly a year in Musgamagw Dzawada’enuxw territory (the Broughton Archipelago) in defense of wild salmon.

Hope to see you on the dance floor or in the campground next weekend!
