I'm looking forward to my first show of 2024, here in Montreal at Mai/son with my friends Sainerine and THRTDSPLY from Vancouver, and fellow local FSK1138.

Expect primordial darkness and corporeal sacrament 💋

The address for this show is secret, so you'll have to contact me directly on instagram for the info:

I first met sound artist Chloe Alexandra Thompson a few years back when we shared a bill at an experimental music show in Portland. At the time, she was based in Vancouver and I was in New York, and later that year we coincidentally switched places when I relocated to Canada and she moved to Brooklyn.

I spoke with her recently for Winnipeg's Public Parking and we took a deep dive into her fascinating sonic practice, which integrates spatial sound and creative coding as well as collaborations for theatre, dance, and film:

Chloe Alexandra Thompson works in sight, sound and somatics. A fluent technologist, her site-specific, digital, and performance works are deeply attuned to our perceptions. The Cree, Canadian composer and sound artist incorporates sources from audio coding language software such as Max and Pure Data...

I just wrapped up a virtual sound art residency through Media Arts Committee (https://mediaartscommittee.org) with an awesome cohort of fellow artists!

This was such an enriching experience for me, from submitting a proposal for a sound art piece responding to a given theme ("self care", from a critical standpoint), to sharing my plans and process with a group, to reflecting on the finished product. It was also an honour to be commissioned to create a final piece, which is included on a compilation released today alongside the other residents' work.

Have a listen here: https://mediaartscommittee.bandcamp.com/album/get-a-plant

The artwork for the compilation was created by fellow resident, artist and friend from the Vancouver music scene, Max Ammo, and I am blown away by their interpretation of each artist's concepts. The illustration made for my piece is below 🧚‍♂️

I've been in winter hibernation, but have had a few things brewing during the still season❄️one of them is this interview with Vancouver sound artist Sara Gold that I did for local art publication ReIssue. We discussed Sara's work as an experimental performer, producer, and workshop facilitator in the electronic music community of so-called Vancouver.

I wrote a few words on my experience learning spatial sound technology at Lobe Studio and how it's influencing my next big project (which I'll be talking more about in the coming months 👻):

Earlier this month, I wrapped up my residency at Lobe Studio , where I spent a total of 80 hours across June and July. I went into the residency knowing a bit about 4DSOUND, the holographic sound technology that Lobe is dedicated to, having attended an info session and a performance there previousl

I've been busy this month doing a spatial sound residency at Lobe Studio. Their space is custom designed for an immersive, holographic sound experience using 4DSOUND software. Spending time here has been super inspiring! I just posted a quick recap of my first two weeks:

I spent four hours a day in the studio during the week, which I arrived at via a commute involving two separate buses. This new routine was quite a departure from my usual schedule of working from home according to my natural energy flow. But it was well worth the challenge of imposing a bit of temp

After a hiatus of a few years, I've been dipping my toe back into DJing. For the new moon, here's a selection of dark synth wave, industrial, and experimental techno from 95-120 bpm, recorded live on my well-loved 850s and xone 23. The title of the mix is a reference to my fav story by (Vancouver resident) William Gibson, about a cyborg artist who creates albums with their mind.

I'm continuing to share candid thoughts on my blog about various parts of my music-making experience. This one touches on subconscious aspects of the creative process.

Last night I had an epiphany that was a surprisingly long time coming. I'd been going through the previously-mentioned process of tracking demos, and the way I was doing it was sending each instrument straight into the computer, to get a totally dry recording of each that I planned to later mix and

Taking stock of the first month of 2022 in my January studio diary: https://reliquaryv.com/blog/2022/1/30/studio-diary-january

As the first month of the year comes to a close, I woke up this morning feeling optimistic. It’s been just over two months since I played my first live show as Reliquary V. The next show on my horizon is in May and I had decided to write a new album in the interim.

I wrote a few words on my recent project Dematerialize, an album of electronic poetry that I conceived as a collaboration between two facets of my artistic identity. Read more on my site :) https://reliquaryv.com/blog/2022/1/14/self-collaboration-dematerialize

In December 2021, I released Dematerialize, an album of electronic poetry that I’d been working on for the past several years. The recording was made available in cassette and digital form by New York City tape label Soap Library.
