Did you know that the Basler Fasnacht (carnival) is an UNESCO World Heritage Site? 🌍✨ The carnival officially kicks off with the Morgestraich, an event that begins at 4:00 a.m. All the city lights are turned off, and the night is suddenly illuminated by the glow of countless lanterns. 🏮🌃 The air fills with the music of pipers and drummers, creating an unforgettable atmosphere. 🥁🎶 We had the pleasure of witnessing the start of the "Drei schneschte Dääg" (Three most beautiful days) together with Basel tourisn from the terrace of the Singerhaus, right in the heart of Basel. How can meetings and congresses be held without unnecessarily increasing the ecological footprint of the participants? We have compiled five tips for you:
- Encourage visitors to travel by public transport and publicize the existing offers. In Basel, for example, every hotel guest receives a Mobility Ticket that allows them to use trams and buses for free.
- Make participants aware of hotels that are committed to sustainability or that even have a corresponding certificate.
- Use local and seasonal products for catering and avoid disposable tableware in any form. Refillable drinking bottles have also proven their worth.
- Encourage exhibitors to use recyclable materials for giveaways and packaging and use reusable stand structures.
- Avoid paper waste by making congress materials available electronically and encouraging participants to use their own promotional materials responsibly.
