At Casa Coya, we’re all about curating unforgettable experiences for our retreats — and that starts with trying every excursion ourselves! Recently, we embarked on a day trip to El Salto del Buey, a stunning 90-meter waterfall tucked away in the lush Colombian countryside.

✨Fun fact: El Salto del Buey is one of the tallest waterfalls in the Antioquia region and is surrounded by a diverse ecosystem, including tropical birds and lush vegetation, making it a haven for nature lovers.

Our adventure included an exhilarating climb up the waterfall, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys and mountains. It’s the perfect way to connect with nature, challenge yourself, and soak in the beauty of Colombia.

At Casa Coya, our avocado farm is as unique as it is sustainable. Our propagation method combines tradition with innovation by grafting the roots of native avocado plants to Hass avocado plants. This approach helps us nurture avocados that are adapted to local soil and climate conditions, while yielding the delicious Hass variety that’s popular worldwide.

Here’s how it works: we start with a resilient, native avocado rootstock known for its hardiness and disease resistance. We then graft a young Hass plant onto it, creating a fusion that allows us to grow Hass avocados successfully in our region. This technique not only ensures stronger trees but also reduces the need for fertilizers and pesticides, keeping our farming practices as eco-friendly as possible.

Here are some fun facts about our avocado plants:

Quick Growth: This grafting method accelerates growth, allowing us to see avocado production within 2-3 years—much faster than traditional seed planting!
Eco Benefits: Avocado trees help capture carbon, so each tree contributes to reducing our carbon footprint.
Nutritional Powerhouse: Did you know a Hass avocado contains about 20 different vitamins and minerals? Each tree yields superfoods that nourish both people and the planet!
