SHORTER HOURS (closes at 6pm [vs the regular midnight]) AT P***S BLANCAS-CR•NICA BORDER CROSSING ON:
WEDNESDAY - DEC. 25 &
WEDNESDAY - JAN. 1

BUT - EXPECT MANY HOURS WAIT TIME AT EACH MIGRATION POINTS until JAN. 6 - as many Nica's that live/work in Costa Rica often take advantage as a common 2 week vacation period to go home & spend it with their family back in NICARAGUA.

We're talking normally if no ones at each Migracion office it could be as little as 30 minutes from Point A to Point B. BUT - this time, it could be 3-5 HOURS - at EACH Migracion office!!

NOTE - you'll be standing there IN THE BLAZING HEAT (mid-80s) - THOUGH I just checked the weather predictions & it looks like there's chance of rain (yeah & boo).
So bring an umbrella (for shade/possible rain), & LOTS of water & something to eat, & a fan/something to fan yourself with, comfy shoes &/or a stool.

NEED TO DO A VISA RUN BETWEEN NOW & JANUARY 6?
One of the "slowest days" is usually Dec. 25 - late morning/early afternoon - since most Nica's working in CR are back in Nica spending Christmas with their Nica family - as long as you're COMPLETED on the CR side BY 6pm.

CR EXIT TAX•Impuesto Salida Terrestre PAYMENT:
I think the smartest way to do it the next 2 weeks is online:
• https://BancoBCR.com/wps/portal/bcr/bancobcr/personas/solicitudes_en_linea/pago_impuesto_salida_terrestre = $8
• You can do it INSIDE at the Exiting CR Migracion office at their 2 atm type machines in the far right corner - BUT - what do you do if it's not working? I paid it with my debit card & it was just the $8.
• RESELLERS - at the border there are a few ReSellers but they charge $2 extra for the "Convenience" of them doing it for you:
- The Deldu bus office (it’s a Chartreuse colored building on the "Entering CR" side - to the right of the international bus kiosks [that’s where you’d get the proof you’re Leaving CR within 180 days bus ticket that’s required of ALL entering CR. Normally these buses between CR & Nica are $30-$34 each way but here it’s just around $15-$18]).
- Before you enter the Migracion buildings - on your right there are a couple building down a steep grate (but once we did that & they came up to me since I have a bad knee & definitely couldn't get down)
Whoever does it puts it in the system - that's why Migracion doesn't ask you for it - so you won't need any proof (but to be safe if you get a receipt I'd bring it)

As for the entering Nica Registration online form which they say you must do to enter Nicaragua - https://solicitudes.migob.gob.ni/Tramites/RegistroN
I've tried over & over & it just kept spinning. When I got to the window - they knew that & they just entered my info (number in Nica, where I was staying, how long I was staying & profession. Whatever you do do NOT say you're a journalist - even a travel writer & even a blogger can be iffy - & don't say you'll be working in Nica).

💙 But our journey doesn’t end here. While this is a huge step forward, we still have work to do.

What’s Next?
Our next goal is to develop a whale watching certification program. This certification will:

Ensure all operators follow best practices for sustainable and responsible tourism.
Provide clear standards for protecting marine life and minimizing human impact.
Highlight certified operators as leaders in eco-tourism, supporting both conservation

We believe this certification is a crucial step to build on the momentum of this new law and ensure long-term benefits for whales, the ocean, and coastal communities.
