When you have a neurotypical child, you feel reasonably assured that class participation and decent study habits will result in good grades. These kids have close friends. They get invited to participate in social things like dances and weekend gatherings. They make the teams, auditions, organizations and clubs.
But when you have a child with certain differences, this is often not the case. Learning may take longer, both academically and socially. Despite their tremendous efforts, results are often a fraction of their peers and social acceptance is fleeting, setting them up for painful comparisons and bitter frustration. Instead of a fun and fulfilling experience, school can become a breeding ground for depression and anxiety, and assignments a battle ground at home. It is exhausting for parent and child alike.
This is the week of SPED (Special Education), Autism, Dyslexia, and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) awareness.
For all the children who struggle every day to succeed in a world that does not recognize their gifts and talents, and for those who are walking beside them, please let this be a gentle reminder to be kind and accepting of ALL people.
Recognize that the "playing field" is not always a level surface.
Children who learn differently are not weird. They are merely gifted in ways that our society does not value enough. Yet they want what everyone else wants: To be accepted!!

Our world would be far less beautiful without them.

Nathalie's Storytelling Singalongs

A creative, musical experience tailored for children aged 3-8 years old, these unique singalongs are designed to introduce kids to music and the art of storytelling through songs. With a combination of originally written songs and well known classics, Nathalie Kyrou (a singer/songwriter with a passion for music and children) will transform the classroom into a magical place where kids can learn while having fun!

The session, which lasts about 45 min, is both enjoyable and educational, with interactive action songs (where kids can sing and move) and game songs (where they can make smart guesses), all of which are easy to learn. Nathalie explains to the children how songs are stories set to music, and they in turn are encouraged to create their own stories and songs along the way. Different themes are addressed, such as the weather, animals, colours, food etc. so children can engage and use their minds to solve puzzles.

For schools: a free introductory session can be followed by an optional series of 1-10 workshop sessions for a small fee of only 2 euros per child in each class (minimum 20 children) per session, focusing on different topics related to music, instruments and songs. In this way, the children are offered the chance to explore music further while being entertained. Emphasis is placed on sharing experiences, being part of a group and experimenting with sound and movement... and of course laughing! Children often feel relaxed and happy afterwards :) So let your kids enter the magical world of stories and music with these unique singalongs... and give your teachers the little break they probably need!
