As a photographer at the wedding, I decided to take a step back and witness the spectacle from a different perspective. There they stood, a crowd of guests with phones held high, all waiting with bated breath—not for the bride, but for the perfect shot. It was almost amusing. Here were friends and family, supposedly there to celebrate a once-in-a-lifetime moment with the bride, yet entirely consumed by the mission to document it from behind their screens. Instead of basking in the joy of the event, they spent it meticulously capturing every second on their mobile devices.
It made me wonder: is it really possible to absorb and appreciate a moment when you're so focused on filming it? I’m not so sure. It seems that the more people concentrate on preserving a memory, the less they actually experience it. But hey, at least they'll have plenty of footage to remind them of what they didn’t actually see in real time.
