Nigerian born Odey idu, known as ‘’Commander Messiah’’ was born in 1973 and grew up in Ghana. He probably owes his musical talent to his parents who were outstanding musicians just like the generations before them.
Commander Messiah's sense of melody and warm pitch make him one of the most promising voices from Africa. He was nominated for an Afro-beat music award in Berlin/Germany in the Reggae category in October 2016.
In 2008, he recorded his first international album ‘’Cry of the Sufferer’’ in Georgetown, Gyana under ‘’vizion sounds record.’’ Core producers to Commander Messiah are Alabama and Akim, which was mixed by Bobby Digital in Jamaica, mastered in England by ’vizion sounds record’’. He was presented for the dancehall show ‘’Sting’’ in Jamaica in December 2008.
Commander Messiah’s growth is due to the participation as bassist and later lead singer of the Vibration Boyz (since 1998 Vibration Kings), a backing vocalist and bass guitarist for Rita Marley. He opened shows for Mighty Diamonds, and ‘’Steel Pulse’’ as well ‘’Ras Kimono’’, Majek Fashek, Tuface, Lucky Dube, Shabba Ranks, Shaggy, Yellow Man, Muta Baruka, Culture, Rita Marley, Will Wonder, Kevin Little, Buju Banton, Michael Asher, Sizzla, Anthony B, Busy Signal, Jah Coustix, the Yard Vibez Crew and many more…..
In 2012, Commander Messiah moved to Germany where he played on numerous stages in Berlin, and other countries. As a member of the Berlin Reggae scene, Commander Messiah performs as an opening artist for shows at famous Berlin reggae club ‘Yaam’ and at dancehall shows. He also supports cultural events at ‘Karneval der Kulturen’ and charity shows like ‘Barefoot for Africa’ and ‘Action on Words’. Commander Messiah has been touring with many outstanding musicians and bands like Jahcoustix, Yardvides Crew, More Colours, Sizzla, Anthony B, Peter Morgan and many more.
Commander Messiah has been performing at the major Reggae festivals in Europe from “Reggae Jam”, Rototom, Chiemsee, Ruhr Reggae Summer, etc.
