short interview with one of the curators, Achim Kaufmann, about the upcoming Serious Series 2023:

Q: How did it come about that you two have been curating this concert series since 2019?
A: When Kathrin Pechlof and Christian Weidner realized they had too many other obligations to continue curating the series they approached Frank and myself to see if we were interested in taking over from them in 2019.
Q: What does the concert series mean to you?
A: It is indeed a concert series but it turned out to be more like a festival - with three consecutive nights and three sets per night.
I think we both like diversity in programming - we are not musical purists. But we still aim at having a logical and meaningful dramaturgy each night.
When that works, you can really feel it. And there is also a feeling of sharing with the musicians, the audience and everybody who is working behind the scenes.
Q: What is your main focus and interest when programming the concert series?
A: Obviously there is a strong focus on improvising (instant composing) - although we always have a number of groups where compositional concepts are important as well.
I am interested in a wide-ranging spectrum of approaches to improvisation and to sound so hopefully that reflects in our programming.
We also seek to include a good mix of Berlin-based musicians and those who don't get heard here too often. And we seek diversity on a more general level as well.
Q: What are the future plans for the series?
A: The future is unclear... The Uferstudios were already fully booked for next year when we were about to write our grant application so the series will most likely have to pause next year.
After that, we will have to see.
