🌿🌸 Discover the fascinating tradition of the maypole! 🌸🌿

For centuries, the maypole has been a symbol of community, fertility and the beginning of spring. 🌳🌼 In many parts of Germany, this custom is celebrated with joy and enthusiasm every year.

The maypole is carefully selected, decorated and set up, often by village communities or clubs. It is decorated with colorful ribbons, flowers, coats of arms and other decorations that vary depending on the region. 🎀🌺

A lot usually happens before the maypole is finally beautifully decorated and celebrated by the community.

First, a suitable tree, usually a spruce, is found and felled. He is then guarded until the big day - often not very successfully. The young men from the neighboring community steal it, according to custom.
Strict rules apply that, among other things, determine when the maypole theft was successful. Only the tree can be stolen and only as long as it is not standing. Flags, plaques, ribbons and other decorations are taboo.
Of course, a decent trigger must be made to get the maypole back. A few barrels of beer and a decent snack are common for the thieves. The release is then celebrated together.
In addition to the maypole that is set up on the village square - also known as the village maypole - other smaller trees, mayen, are “distributed”. Normally the mayor receives a small tree, as do the priest and the teacher - the high-ranking personalities in the village community.
Young boys take advantage of the opportunity and “declare” themselves on May 1st with a love May tree - a small, richly decorated May tree that they place in front of their loved one's window.
