This Thursday we gather at Kunsthaus Hamburg to meet with Ksenia Hnylytska (b.1984, Kyiv), one of the key figures in Ukrainian contemporary art. Ksenia lives and works between Kyiv and Munich. She is known as an interdisciplinary artist who experiments in a multitude of fields, including painting, drawing, ceramics, video, and more. During the event, we will look closely into a curated selection of Ksenia’s video works that cover an extensive period of the development of the Ukrainian contemporary art scene and Ksenia’s role in this.
In 2020 Ksenia was shortlisted for PinchukArtСentre Prize. Some of the selected projects are "Stratigraphy", Vozdvizhenka 32, Kyiv (2016), "Degree of dependence", Awangarda, Wroclaw, Poland (2016), "Let the two seas meet", Muzeum Sztuki Nowoczesnej w Warszawie, Warsaw (2015), "Colour test", the Small Gallery at the Art Arsenal, Kyiv (2013), Gyumri Biennial (as part of the R.E.P. group), Gyumri, Armenia (2008).
In addition to her remarkable solo artistic practice, Ksenia has an extensive background in collaborative projects. She played a pivotal role as a co-founder and member of «R.E.P» collective, whose impact on the contemporary art of Ukraine is difficult to underestimate. The collective exists almost for 20 years and was established as a reaction to the “Orange Revolution” in Ukraine. From the beginning, the group has been focused on questions of coexistence and self-organization. They formed grassroots institutions, cooperation platforms, and forums for sharing ideas. With these initiatives, the collective explores important social issues. During the artist talk, we will have an opportunity to have a look at some of the collectives’ video documentation.
See you soon!
