Speaker introduction: I’m really looking forward to the session of Lucy Blakiston () at in Berlin. If you know her work with “S**t You Should Care About” () or her book “Make It Make Sense” (German edition here), you already know she has a unique way of making sense of the internet without ever making it boring.

This isn’t going to be a “death by slides” presentation. Instead, Lucy will sit down with her friend Sacha Judd () for a real conversation about life online in 2025. They’ll cover what it means to live so much of our lives on the internet, why communities matter more than clout, how fandom can spark entire careers, and what AI is doing to the future of digital media.

It promises to be one of those talks where you leave not only entertained, but also with a new perspective on the world you scroll through every day.

beyond tellerrand Berlin 2025 is taking place on November 6 and 7 with workshops and Side Events on 5th and 8th.

While moving servers, here is the next talk for Berlin: CSS has come a long way, but many developers still wrestle with legacy codebases. In her talk, Ana Rodrigues shares practical strategies for modernising CSS: from deciding when (and how) to refactor, to working with stakeholders, prioritising changes, and finding quick wins. Drawing on real-world experience, she’ll show how to balance today’s challenges with tomorrow’s possibilities.

Ana works as a front-end developer at tech-for-good agency Hactar. She started coding as a teenager building fan sites, and has been working as a front-end developer for the last 12 years. In "Art in Dusty Places", Jared Ficklin takes us to Black Rock City, a temporary metropolis that rises from the dust of Nevada’s Black Rock Desert each year.

In this harsh and surreal environment, where dust coats everything and nature offers no distractions, art and human creativity become the defining forces. It’s a place where survival meets self-expression, and where culture emerges as uniquely human, fleeting, and unforgettable.

Being tired doesn’t mean you can’t be excited for what’s next!

That is what Cabeza Patata show you in their titled “Exhausted … but still excited!” at Berlin. They say:

“We’re tired. New-parent tired, AI-tired, social-media-tired, but still endlessly excited about what we’re creating. From late-night wake-ups to early-morning client calls, it often feels like we’re running on pure adrenaline. Yet in the middle of the chaos, we keep finding inspiration and realising that our way of seeing and enjoying the world has shifted.”

In this Katie Menzies and Abel Reverter, who are the lovely people behind Cabeza Patata, explore the intersection of life and creative work, and how embracing the chaos has helped them adapt, rediscover joy, and stay excited about their projects.

Join us and get excited as well on November 6. and 7. in Berlin. Tickets and details about their talk: https://beyondtellerrand.com/events/berlin-2025/speakers/cabeza-patata

What is beyond tellerrand?

beyond tellerrand, the name of my event, is a mix of the English word “beyond” and the German word “Tellerrand”, which is the edge of a plate. In Germany you say “Über den Tellerrand schauen” which translates to “Look over the edge of your plate”, meaning something like “Think outside the box”, though that does not completely match the meaning. That describes the aim of mixing different topics to have (force!) people to not only look at their day by day stuff (like attending a JavaScript conference, if you work with JavaScript a lot or a design event, if you are a graphic designer), but also to look left and right from what you do. It also is shown in the mix of topics at the event, where quite a lot is about web related stuff (mostly front end, or "web design" than back end), but spiced with a lot of interesting and inspiring other stuff.
