Bye-bye, Daddy!

The year 2024 was a year which professionally was such a smooth ride. But on the private side, to say it was a bumpy one would still be an understatement. And it’s no coincidence that I haven’t posted anything here for more than two months. I’ve gone quiet for a reason... My father passed away in mid-October.

He died after two very intense months of care, hospitalizations, recovery, renewed hope, worry, prayers - and an even greater loss of strength. When his tough journey came to an end, my heart hurt so much. Literally. I hardly knew how to bear this pain. And there were so many tears, endless tears; so many tears that I also cried with my mother.

Slowly, very slowly, but surely, my soul found comfort, the tears dried. Beautiful memories gained the upper hand. Like the one you see in the picture above. When, as a little girl, I knew no better place in the world than sitting on my father’s shoulders. I think this year I have really learned the value that pictures can have!

I felt like I couldn’t show any of the jewels that lay dormant in my archive until I shared this with you. This, the struggles of life, the hardship of being faced with the finite nature of our existence. This irretrievability is almost beyond our human comprehension. But life goes on, it must go on. And I continue in the inner peace that I did what I could have done. That I told my father what I wanted to tell him when he was still with us: how much he means to me, his pride and trust in me, his unconditional support and love. Dad, it’s so hard that we had to let you go. But we know that you will always be with us!

A little time out on your wedding day just for the two of you is always a good idea. Rieke and Christian were immediately enthusiastic when I suggested going outside for a moment where the sun had finally come out. These couple portraits will forever remind them of this wonderful calm evening atmosphere.

Autumn is taking over and with it comes the farewell to summer. Let’s take its vibes of ease with us into the colder and darker times of the year.

Wonderful memories created during a family photo shoot with these wonderful human beings …and their furry and feathery favourites! Lots of love, Chris

Light and shadow.
It is where photography starts: drawing with light, the translation of the Greek origin of the word “photography“.
It is what I specifically love about these late summer days and what fascinated me deeply when working with my camera.
It is what in a figurative sense life has in store for us.
And if you encounter a lot of shadow currently, never forget there must and will be some light somewhere! A hug!

The door to the unknown. Our lives are full of options. Sometimes this seems overwhelming. And sometimes the amount of coincidences that determine our path in life is ... amazing (to say the least). But that shouldn’t scare us.

Life is a constant flow of chance and intention. Things that happen to us, and things that we can actively influence. Trust in what happens, don’t fight against the unchangeable. And be bold and take action where you can make an impact. Be curious about what lies behind the door in front of you. Push it open. Dare to walk through it into the unknown. At the end of our lives, we will not regret so much what we have done. We will regret what we have NOT done.

Right now, in a state where I am confronted with both people who are nearing the end of their time on this planet and others who have just sent their first loud scream into the air, I am grappling with the topic of life dreams. Let me know: Do you have a vision for your life? What door do you currently see in front of you and wonder if you should push it open?

The groom. I like working with you guys! While preparing for the wedding day, you might seem a little less keen to get in front of the camera than your significant other. But when the moment of the couple portrait arrives and you see that it doesn’t feel artificial at all and it’s not about weird poses, when you realise that it’s about being yourself and immersing yourself in the moment with your better half, you simply nail it! So damn’ cool and naturally confident. Here comes the groom - yeah!

Cheers to your love and your free spirit! Relaxing in the hot tub with romantic fairy lights around you and a nice glass of bubbly in your hand the night before your wedding - how does that sound?
If that’s more appealing to you than stressful last preps for a big party, an elopement might be just the thing for you! An elopement, that is focusing on you as a couple, on what lies behind you and what is ahead, soaking in very single moment with your significant other. And having fun!

If you want to explore the options for an intimate wedding further and find out how that could look like for you, send me a DM. I’m an open book and happy to answer your questions!

The window to my business. The window to my soul. My website wildmalva.com.

Finally, it’s live - hurray! The relaunch was such an exciting process. I embarked on this journey more forced than voluntarily: Last autumn, my former web provider announced to cease their service due to an acquisition by a bigger competitor in overseas. On the following months, what started as “just” a technical replacement for a well functioning website developed into a deep reflection on my brand, on my mission and on my vision for my photography.

Most of the considerations I made when I launched Wild Malva | Photography & Storytelling in 2019 stood the test of time. A few needed to be refined. The biggest challenge was letting go of what wasn’t necessary. To fully reveal the core of my brand.

The result? You can read it in the second image. Three simple words: „Das, was zählt.“ or in English: “What truly matters.”

This is what my life is about: to get rid of all the layers that only hide who I am and what counts in (my) life. And this is also what my photography is all about: to invite people who work with me onto this exciting path and experience the freedom, the feeling of completeness you find when you focus on what

truly matters.

Check out my website and let me know what you think (link in my bio).

P.S.: I cannot finish this post without giving a great hand to those human beings who helped me all along. My sincere thanks to my companions who supported me in many different ways: .fabula, , Melissa, Tom and Valerian from .co, and . Without you I would not have made it here! I am very grateful for this journey. And very proud of myself when I look at what I’ve created with you backing me up. Lots of love!

Today I want to share a portrait with you that found its way on my new website. The resulting series could be headlined with ‘pet love’. Most of us would think of dogs, cats or Guinea pigs maybe. Maike’s heart, though, beats for chicken.

They are part of her family and have a fine residence in her huge garden on the countryside. It was touching to see her with two of these feathered beauties, capturing the connection between the woman and the animals. How do you like the result?

Celebrating your love for each other, your vows to spend the rest of your life together, to be soulmates and companions whatever may come. This is what a wedding is all about. And an elopement is maybe the purest way to experience this to the fullest. No fuss, no worrying about what the guests may say and if they’re well entertained. Only focus on the core - on your love! 🧡🧡

I love the little and big stories behind whom and what I get to photograph. Like the one behind this ring and the jewellery designers who create it. Founder , who comes from a family of jewellery entrepreneurs, started after seeing the disastrous environmental and social impact of gold mining in Peru. That’s why this ring is made entirely from recycled material and fair trade gemstones.
As a young magazine journalist, I once reported from Bolivia, a neighbouring country to Peru, which has also suffered greatly from the exploitation of raw materials. I feel Gaya’s shock when she saw what was happening in South America. And I find her response to this so inspiring!

(Just so you know: This post is not paid and is not based on a paid collaboration. It’s simply my personal opinion.)

Mom and Dad, my parents, a photo I took in autumn in the huge forest of my home region, the Palatinate. In Germany, we celebrate both Father’s and Mother’s Day this week, and so I thought it’s a good moment to share this personal post with you.

The relationship with my parents is surprisingly not the easiest topic for me to write about. Not because it was a difficult relationship, no. But an emotional one. There were these years when these two human beings were my world, they nurtured me, protected me, gave me a home in many ways. Then, in my teens, I realised that I have to spread my wings, explore this amazing world, become whom I felt I truly am. I understood that was easier to bear for my father than it was for my mother. Thinking back, I still can feel how narrow my old home had become and how excited I was to find my own paths. “Flügge werden” is how we call that in German, and it is an expression from wildlife when the little chicks leave the nest. I sensed pure freedom - and an immense joy!

Today, Mom and Dad have grown old - together, what a blessing. And it’s up to my brother and me to support them as much as we can. Care for them. Help them to accept that their radius is becoming smaller and smaller, everything slows down while aging. And our world with its efficiency gods out there is not really prepared to give elderly people the space, the pace they need. I don’t want to deny that - it sometimes cost me quite some patience to adapt to their tempo. Like once when I was a little toddler they had to adapt to mine…

Thank you, Mom and Dad, for everything you’ve given me. And also for what you could not give. Because that is also part of being a parent, and it is all too human! Love you!

Vows! This lovingly designed booklet gives a worthy place to what is at the centre of every elopement, every wedding: your promise to each other that you want to spend your lives with exactly this person. To go through thick and thin together. To hold each other’s hand when it has become wrinkled and creased.
How wonderful to be able to recall and visualise this promise, these words, again and again. Feel all the emotions of your wedding day welling up inside you. And gratitude for the most beautiful gift that another person can give you: sharing life with one another.

Vows - Eheversprechen!
