2006 as a great year for live gigs…

Was sorting through an old hard drive the other day and found these photos from Daft Punk live at Marley Park in Dublin - Aug, 2006. The quality is pretty low because this must have one of the first camera phones I owned. Anybody else remember their Sony K750i ? 🥹
I did. have some videos as well but I think they sadly died with the phone so I ripped one off YouTube.

Anyway, about the gig which did not disappoint. Audiences in Ireland are pretty legendary and this one was pure party from start to end.
Daft Punk in their helmets on top of the pyramid relentlessly banging out the tunes, even Robot Rock and some of the stuff off Human After All sounded good.
I didn’t discover till years later that they had used as part of their setup an Ableton rig to trigger and remix all the songs in real time which made for a pretty unpredictable and fun set.
Best memory though was getting a double decker bus into Dublin for a house party afterwards and the whole top of the decker bus singing Around the World over and over again and battering the seats and windows.

4. St Etienne - Join Our Club (Heavenly, 1992)

‘Do you believe in magic?’…

It’s summer 1992, I almost die on a slippery mountainside in County Kerry, a family holiday marked by heavy rain and soundtracked by a mixtape of chart radio bootlegs; The Cure, Nirvana, Snap, Public Enemy, and St Etienne.
I discover Irish cider and draw pineapples with ink in a thick watercolour book for art school.
I carry a film camera and shoot an iconic black and white photo of two Volkswagen Beetles abandoned in front of an old Irish cottage at the foot of Carrauntoohil, (the highest mountain in Ireland) This is just hours before it descends into a heavy mist and I take the wrong way home from the summit. A print hangs in my granny’s house till her death 3 years ago.
I also take a photo of a girl and her sister we meet at a campsite, we play cards and she repeatedly makes a dirty joke that I don’t get. I am painfully shy, I wear a black wide brimmed hat and I don’t know how to talk to girls yet.

It’s always a pleasure to witness a back to back set with this pair. Regular selectors at our seven inch parties in the park for some years now, Boom Dis have their own special sound.

Boom Dis, a mysterious duo of Irish-German selectors, whose vinyl sets are known for their diverse, genre-blending sounds from around the globe.
A trademark of their record selection is a love of low frequencies and deep grooves as found in dancehall and dub beats, hip hop in all forms, funk, boogie and soulful house music.

One week to go, so here’s a little spin through our lineup for .berlin on the 21st. Absolutely stoked to have this guy flying over from Belfast and take a break from his action packed schedule to play for us. I’ve known Andy (three record bags) McHugh a long old time from back in the day spinning records, gigs and party madness in the infamous Menagerie in Belfast. A brief introduction…

has been quietly keeping himself busy for while now, via output from the studio, his nights and pop-up radio project as well as being one-half of the imprint.
Andy has been an integral part of the Belfast underground scene for almost two decades and supported many touring artists, including Om Unit, Fracture, Mark Pritchard, Nathan Fake, Shackleton, Steward and Pinch to name a few.
He’s hosted his own radio slots on Subtle Radio in London and DDR in Dublin and guested on The Lot (New York), Dublab LA, Netil Radio, Selector, Reform and Melodic Distractions.

Summer is officially open! 🛒🔥 Absolutely lovely, chill party times in the park last night. 9 straight hrs of beats and grooves and dancing in the air under the trees with a lovely bunch of people. 🙏 Thanks to everyone who came by and grooved with us and all the new people who discovered the Einkaufswagen vibes!!
