It’s always a pleasure to witness a back to back set with this pair. Regular selectors at our seven inch parties in the park for some years now, Boom Dis have their own special sound.

Boom Dis, a mysterious duo of Irish-German selectors, whose vinyl sets are known for their diverse, genre-blending sounds from around the globe.
A trademark of their record selection is a love of low frequencies and deep grooves as found in dancehall and dub beats, hip hop in all forms, funk, boogie and soulful house music.

One week to go, so here’s a little spin through our lineup for .berlin on the 21st. Absolutely stoked to have this guy flying over from Belfast and take a break from his action packed schedule to play for us. I’ve known Andy (three record bags) McHugh a long old time from back in the day spinning records, gigs and party madness in the infamous Menagerie in Belfast. A brief introduction…

has been quietly keeping himself busy for while now, via output from the studio, his nights and pop-up radio project as well as being one-half of the imprint.
Andy has been an integral part of the Belfast underground scene for almost two decades and supported many touring artists, including Om Unit, Fracture, Mark Pritchard, Nathan Fake, Shackleton, Steward and Pinch to name a few.
He’s hosted his own radio slots on Subtle Radio in London and DDR in Dublin and guested on The Lot (New York), Dublab LA, Netil Radio, Selector, Reform and Melodic Distractions.

3. The Orb - Assassin / Blue Room (Big Life 1992) - Jukebox 7”

I’ve only had this record about a year or so but its lived in my consciousness for much longer.
Its probably one of my favourite dance tunes of all time and nothing sounds quite like it.
The Orb are better known for Blue Room or Fluffy Blue Clouds but Assassin is a trance like psychedelic trip (also worth exploring on the 12” live version).

Back in the early 90’s I used to record different radio shows at night on tape to listen back to later and then would make a second copy, a compilation where I would pick out the songs I really liked and that was my cassette playlist that I would play over and over again.
They’re still all in a box in my parents roofspace, I could never bring myself to throw them away.

I heard this track on the Annie Nightingale show sometime in 1992 and was totally transfixed by it. I wasn’t really into dance music then, I was just grabbing sounds from everywhere and anywhere,
It might even be the exact same show where I heard Aphex Twin - Digeridoo for the first time.
The tape was so repeatedly listened to, I can remember the very next track was St Etienne - Join Our club.

Annie Nightingale who died only recently, was a total legend of a DJ, back at a time when Radio One felt much more experimental at night time or it was just a good era for music.
The records of those times where my growing up pains, my secret refuge, an antenna from country suburbia into another world through the power of radio.
So to own this track years later and play it out on my seven inch soundsystem is sacred for me and this track is some kind of spiritual event.

2. Funky Bompa - Mesida / Yemana (Bompa Discos Belgium, 2013)

Tucked away in a basement in a corner of Brooklyn lies the studio of vinyl digger, DJ and Names You Can Trust owner; Eric Banta.
I got to pay a visit on a trip to New York in 2013 while making a documentary for Belfast based label Rudimentary Records As well as filming a live showcase of visiting Irish electronic musicians and DJ’s we got to chat to local label owners, club promoters and musicians making their way in the independent scene in NYC and draw links back to Belfast.

At the end of the interview with Eric, I got to have a dig through the online shop box and came away with this lovely little Afro edit amongst a fistful of NYCT and Soundway sevens.
The B side Yemana is a great tune to occasionally drop into a set to change the mood or bring a little energy and one that has travelled around in my record box for quite a while.

Here comes that time again…

Erste Mai is coming, the origin of DJ Einkaufswagen and simultaneously I’ll be celebrating 10 years in Berlin! 🛒🔥🚀

So it’s back to the park for a party in the bushes with the seven inch soundsystem and a few friends. It’ll be the exact same place as last year which lasted rightly into the night before the fun police found us. So if you were there, you already know where we’ll be from about 4pm onwards.

I thought it’d be fun to start documenting some of the seven inches I’ve collected over the years.
It’s an obsession that goes back to age 13 and was my entry into record collecting although I would never have thought of it as that at the time.

This selection series will be completely random and most probably based on stories rather than the coolest cuts or the rarest pressings.



So I’m starting off with what I think is the very first 45 that I bought.

1. Ken Duncan - Get Things Sorted Out / Computer (Crossfire 1987)

Picture the scene, a school gym in 1987 in the Northern Irish countryside. The entire school is in the assembly hall to hear a religious talk followed by a live music performance.
I remember clearly it was an impressive setup; an Apple Mac II with some kind of midi software triggering keyboards and live vocals and guitar.
For a teenager in a tough country school it was a rare moment of freedom away from the bullies and the regimented environment.

I grew up in a vibrant and creative family nurtured by art, music, photography and making stuff.
My dad would regularly test the tolerance of the speakers in the kitchen at high volume with the Beatles - White album, The Waterboys, Paul Simon’s - Gracelands, Cream and Eric Clapton…it was an intense introduction to the power of music and I imitated this by starting my own little collection in my bedroom.

At the end of Kens performance you could buy a seven inch which I note Ken kindly signed for me. It’s not a record I listen to anymore, Side B is the most interesting, clearly influenced by the Police’s cod reggae/rock style with a moral lyric tale. But it’s the object that I treasure. You always remember your first time.

I had a bit of fun digging through my collection to make a 1hr mix of some lo tempo house grooves and feel good disco gems. 2023 was the craziest, busiest year yet for the little Einkaufswagen, we had some amazing adventures together from
Germany to Ireland and back. What started as a bit of a tongue in cheek protest 5 years ago has developed into a unstoppable party happening 🥰 So thank you to everyone who invited me to play at their party, festival or club night and those who danced with us into the night, carried the wagon for me in their van, gave me seven inches, hugs or encouragement along the way. It’s a little bit wobbly, pretty shiny and it’s teetering on the edge of falling apart…it must be DJ Einkaufswagens seven inch soundsystem! Here’s the first two hours of my set recorded at the legendary Klunkerkranich a few weeks back. It was a cosy night in with the Conscious Madness family on Berlins favourite roof top and some good tunes to keep us warm. Pull up a chair, and take a listen, make sure it has four legs first though. 🛒🔥
