⭐️ While NFTs, or artworks linked to blockchain, have existed since 2014, it wasn’t until 2021 when they really took off. Artists, coders, and entrepreneurs entered the arena, ushering in new genres of art and new innovations in technology.

🔎 Beginning with genres like generative, digital, and internet art, which were unappreciated in the time before NFTs, and diving into the genre of cryptoart, this class will explore the many ways in which artists have utilized tools enabled by crypto in order to challenge major industries.

🔎 We will compare artistic innovations within NFTs, such as interactive, responsive, and data-driven artworks, and then dive into the world of artificial intelligence.

🔎 Review NFT marketplaces, museums, coalitions dedicated to crypto and digital art, and web3 publications so that you will be prepared to enter the space as artists, collectors, and scholars.

💡 Explore THE PARADOX OF ART AND LABOUR with 4 weekly live sessions, starting on April 25. Expand your artistic & cultural interests and creative skill-sets. 🚀 Seats are limited!

⭐️ The Paradox of Art and Labour is a four-week online course by Adrian Melis (*Havana, 1985) analyzing art practices that engage with socio-political realities and contexts by merging

📍 art with other disciplines such as
📍 economic theory
📍 journalism
📍political studies
📍anthropology and
📍 social practices.

🔎 In order to explore the relationship between Art and Labour, we will be reflecting on their respective ability to (re)produce subjectivities, ideologies and realities.

🔎 In this course, I intend to address and interconnect a way of looking at reality (the economy and politics) aesthetically through the lense of art and analyzing what artists do and how they become politically and socially engaged transgressing the boundaries between the art world and reality.

🔎 I will propose to you different exercises and will also be offering reference materials for each session.

🔎 Furthermore, I will invite you to collectively develop an idea for a video work by applying some of the concepts we will have been discussing.

Enroll in the Live Online Course THE PARADOX OF ART AND LABOUR by Adrian Melis from April 25 – May 16, 2023 within the BAI Online Program by Berlin Art Institute.

Enroll in the on-site EXPERIMENTAL DRAWING: Artist Books by at Berlin Art Institute from April 05 – 06, 2023. Seats are limited 🍀

💡 The 2-day-workshop will provide a short introduction to the history and contemporary use of artist books in drawing, printmaking and collage.

🔎 The lecture will begin by covering surrealist artist books and investigate current contemporary artist books, occasionally referred to as ‘zines’. Producing and selling zines is one of the best way to create an artwork to be seen by a larger audience, without the restrictions of applying to galleries or installing exhibitions.

🔎 In this course you will collaborate with the whole class and design eight complete individual publications consisting of 8-pages each. The theme of each zine will be decided by each participant at the beginning of class. This is an exercise of collaboration.
🔎 The one-off book can be narrative based, without words, or non-fiction, though it must be constructed entirely from drawings produced in class. You must decide on one evocative word for the theme. You may use handwritten text as well and collage elements throughout.

🔎 Through viewings, lectures, discussion and reading, students will survey how filmmakers and artists working in film, video, and digital media have experimented with the moving image to push the boundaries of the medium and their perception of the world around them.

🔎The course will consider how essential films and filmmakers explored the material and conceptual possibilities of film and video to reshape our notion of what film can be.

🔎In addition to looking closely at the images in these works, students will also listen closely to how sound design has played a role in the impact of these creations.

🔎Analysis of these pieces, concerning form, content, and context will help students understand how experimental filmmaking has produced lyrical, idiosyncratic, and aesthetically radical work and will also provide a stimulating foundation for creating their own experimental work.

⭐️ In the four sessions of this course we will be undertaking activities and exercises that create ways of looking at nature. We will go into different fields of knowledge including herbalism, botany, philosophy, animism, and horticulture.

🔎 Apply artistic methods to the relationship with nature to make thinkable otherwise ‘alien’ epistemologies.

🔎 Engage with art, writing, and artefacts which describe understandings of human beings’ relationship(s) to nature.

🔎 Topics that will be discussed will include: animist thinking, non-human time, notions of the self in relation to plants, and forms of storytelling that gives natural phenomena a cogent sense of ‘personhood’.
