Since 1869, opera performances were presented by guest troupes but after the foundation of the Cairo Conservatoire in the fifties of the late century, lyric theatre works are presented by Egyptian opera singers. In April 1964, The Cairo Opera Company was officially established. The success achieved by the Company's pioneer singers, who performed international works, recorded their names in the ope
ra world's encyclopedias. After the burning of the Khedivial Opera House in 1971, the Cairo Opera Company members struggled to maintain this art in Egypt, performing their shows at many theatres and cultural centers in Cairo and Alexandria. In 1988, the National Cultural Centre "Cairo Opera House" was inaugurated with a new generation of talented artists, presenting to the Egyptian audience master pieces from the opera repertoire, that completed the gleaming way started by the pioneers generation. During this season, The Cairo Opera Company will present famous international operas by great composers like Verdi, Puccini, Rossini and Franz Lehar and distinguished singing recitals at the Opera House theatres in Cairo and Alexandria.
