🌟 Exciting Announcement! 🌟

Thanks to YOUR incredible support, our clothes swaps have been a massive success! 🎉 So much so, that we've just secured a new space for our cause in Jalon! 🛍️🌈

The Daadi Shop: will be more than just a store, it's a hub for sustainability and community. 🌱 From a showroom to upcycling workshops, and even mini drop and swaps, there's something for everyone! Plus, every purchase helps support our small school in India and other vital projects. 💚

We'll be inviting local upcyclers, to showcase what can be done with our pre loved clothes as well as hosting engaging workshops, fostering mindful consumerism every step of the way. 💡

Now, we're rolling up our sleeves and getting ready to transform this space into something truly special. 🎨 If you have spare time and skills to lend a hand, we'd love your help in making The Daadi Shop a welcoming haven for all. ☕

So without no further ado, I am reaching for my paint brushes and asking you to be on the lookout for shop fittings. I need mirrors, shelving and rails,Big tables, an iron and ironing board. A wooden ladder. If you have anything you do not need that you think could be useful please drop me a message.
We're bursting with excitement and gratitude for this new chapter, and we can't wait to open our doors to you all! Remember, with The Daadi Shop, nothing goes to waste! ♻️

I have two more weeks left in India and although I shall be sad to say goodbye to everyone, I know our bonds are stronger than ever. It has been challenging but rewarding, sometimes I think we are not doing enough and then I look back at what we have achieved often surprisingly. I’ve a ton of stories and I have learned so much. Our cultures are so diverse but there is respect for our differences. learn to accept that nothing is wrong and we can merge in harmony. My love for the kids in the school just grows, I want to watch them blossom. They are crazy, loud, and run around like ants in all directions, love pours from them. Today we were problem solving and I found them some puzzles. They all did well. But the style of teaching here is different it is one that works for them, however times are changing as we become more globalized . India is moving forward fast but the population is vast and there will be many who get left behind. Women are waking up to more possibilities and that is good to see. I watch with interest as I see the faces of the mothers navigating the keyboards on their new computers. I believe when kids see their mums as ace multitaskers, respect for women increases. Sadly due to the challenging task of working through what sometimes feels like a field of hurdles we need to find people to support the school to keep it operational. They need more teachers that are skilled and determined to give these kids the chances they deserve. They also need money to help pay the increasing rent on the school and for materials. Most of all they need some great minds to share and empower. I’ve been approached by people reaching out, we do clothes swaps in Spain to Fundraise and we have had people offer to do them in other parts of the world, Australia, Uk and The States. Web developers from Moscow too called me this week as they want to help. Many of my friends and family have donated. Isn’t it great when people see our differences make no difference when we hold hands together to do some good in the world. I sometimes feel I want to change the world but as a friend said tonight, it does not matter that you can’t, so long as the intention is there. So why not, let’s try and change the world by doing something, anything.
You can always donate the price of a cup of coffee and help us towards funding a school. It’s a small price to pay for a big change. Buymeacoffee.com/daadi

Bringing Christmas Magic to Saksham School: A Journey of Joy and Support

It has been a remarkable journey, one filled with heartwarming moments and the pure joy of making a difference. Nitin and Deepti, the incredible minds behind Saksham School in India, welcomed me and three friends with open arms. Together, we embarked on a mission to witness first hand what has always ignited my excitement during visits to India.

Today, our visit to the school was a reunion of sorts. The vibrant paintings we created earlier this year adorned the walls of the playground, serving as a living testament to the memories forged during my last visit. As expected, the children greeted us with their infectious happiness.

Your unwavering support has been the backbone of our endeavours. We had the privilege of meeting a group of mothers who, fuelled by your contributions, have crafted incredible garments for sale. The funds generated have gone towards sustaining a sewing teacher, and I'm delighted to report that the sewing room is once again a hive of creativity and productivity thanks to you guys. Reflecting on our past initiatives, where we created a safe playground area and supported administrative costs, I can't help but feel an overwhelming sense of pride. To witness the tangible results of the collective efforts from friends and fundraising initiatives like clothes swaps this past summer is genuinely rewarding.

However, our journey doesn't end here; the next challenge awaits us.

You may think this is a boring photo but yesterday all these hangers had clothes hanging on them. These clothes were all destined for the bin and were probably on their way to a landfill site somewhere in the world were they would pollute the environment, now they are hanging in someone’s wardrobe for a little bit longer, some of them are being altered, mended or even cut up to make something new. If you think this is a good idea, please look and follow- our page Daadi Clothes Swaps and help us run more clothes swaps and initiatives . If you want to share any pictures of clothes you picked up yesterday, you could win a free entry to our next big swap taking place in Calpe on the 11th Nov at Havana’s beach club. See you there.

So if any of you Maths experts want to do some calculations to help me here. Did you know that we chuck 360,000 tons of our old clothes away every year in the UK. I have just asked my friendly robot Robby to work out how many clothes each member of the Uk would have to swap to reduce textile waste by 50%. The average person chucks 72 items. This is the result. And what amount of textile waste would we save from going to landfill. I know I have nothing else to do with my time.

Robby says

To achieve a 50% reduction in textile waste, we need to determine the total amount of textile waste generated and then find out how many clothes need to be swapped to achieve that reduction. Let's proceed with the calculations:

1. Total annual textile waste generated in the UK:
Total items thrown away per person: 72 items
Total population: 67.33 million people

Total annual textile waste = Total items per person * Total population
Total annual textile waste = 72 items/person * 67.33 million people

2. Calculate the target reduction:
Target reduction = 50% of Total annual textile waste

3. Calculate the number of clothes to be swapped to achieve the target reduction:
Number of clothes to be swapped = Total annual textile waste - Target reduction

Now, let's calculate:

1. Total annual textile waste:
Total annual textile waste = 72 items/person * 67.33 million people
Total annual textile waste = 4,847,760,000 items

2. Calculate the target reduction:
Target reduction = 50% of Total annual textile waste
Target reduction = 0.5 * 4,847,760,000 items
Target reduction = 2,423,880,000 items

3. Calculate the number of clothes to be swapped:
Number of clothes to be swapped = Total annual textile waste - Target reduction
Number of clothes to be swapped = 4,847,760,000 items - 2,423,880,000 items
Number of clothes to be swapped = 2,423,880,000 items

To achieve a 50% reduction in textile waste, approximately 2,423,880,000 clothes would need to be swapped. Keep in mind that these calculations are based on assumptions and simplified numbers for illustrative purposes. In reality, achieving such a significant reduction would require a combination of strategies, including clothes swapping, recycling, and reducing overall consumption of textiles.

Sure, let's divide the total number of clothes that need to be swapped (2,423,880,000 items) by the total population (67.33 million people) to find out how many clothes each person would need to swap:

Number of clothes per person = Total clothes to be swapped / Total population
Number of clothes per person = 2,423,880,000 items / 67,330,000 people

Calculating this:

Number of clothes per person ≈ 36 items

To achieve a 50% reduction in textile waste, approximately 36 clothes per person would need to be swapped. This means that each person would need to participate in clothes swapping and exchange around 36 items to collectively achieve that level of reduction. Keep in mind that this calculation is based on assumptions and simplified numbers for illustrative purposes. The actual number of clothes needed to be swapped could vary based on various factors, and achieving a 50% reduction in textile waste would require a combination of efforts and strategies beyond just clothes swapping.

Blimey I could have just divided 72 by 2 to realize we can reduce by 50 % duh! So that is everyone needs to swap 36 items per year that equals a couple of clothes swaps. But you know how many tons of textile waste that would reduce the landfill by. Go on work it out.
