Who knew?! (We did actually but only because we’ve organised and styled hundreds of weddings abroad).

Organising your wedding ceremony abroad is always a big thing on your list however the boring (but important bits ie the paperwork) can often be overlooked.

Let’s take church weddings in Spain for instance. Although you can organize your ceremony to be performed in English, your marriage certificate will always be written in Spanish. It’s up to you to get it translated. A traditional wedding planner will usually do this for you but if you’re not having one what do you do? Where do you go?

We’ve received so many messages from newly engaged brides recently that are already freaking out 😬

Congratulations! You have found your soulmate and you are getting married ❤️ You have found someone that you are happy to spend the rest of your life with so my first bit of advice is don’t ever lose sight of this. When you are losing sleep over napkins - take a breath and remember what your wedding day is about. Saying this, some of you ladies have day dreamed about your wedding day since being a child so for sure you want everything to be perfect.

How do you achieve perfection on your wedding day when you have little or zero experience in weddings?

So the second bit of advice is decide whether you can go it alone or you need the help of a wedding professional that has experience and knows what to do? A wedding planner is an insurance that your wedding day will go perfectly and be the day you envisaged.

Decide on whether you want a church wedding or a civil ceremony? Bear in mind that civil ceremonies abroad more often than not hold no legal validity.

Do up a rough guest list so you know approx how many guests you will have. This is important for the next step which is venue hunting.

Yes, look online for inspiration to dresses, decoration and flowers, but once you have made your decision don’t look at it anymore and avoid Pinterest as this will have you constantly second guessing if you made the right choices. We see it allll the time!

Aim to send invitations out 6 months before but more if you can (especially if its a wedding abroad).

Ricky & Clare chose dohl drummers to accompany Ricky while walking to the Catholic Church - it was a huge treat for all the locals too! And after the ‘I do’s’ they played the happy couple into their reception where all their loved ones were cheering 🥰

It’s hard to ignore the additional anxiety that’s been added to wedding planning right now. Fear of the unknown as well as wedding planning overwhelm is real.
We suggest you take a moment to congratulate yourself on what you have already done (even if that’s just setting a year 😉) and keep planning your wedding. Don’t stop until you know you have to - even if you have to postpone, at least your wedding is ready 😊

🌸 WEDDING TIP 🌸

If you love the idea of decorating your ceremony and reception with lots of flowers but are concerned about your budget, a good tip (if it’s logistically possible) is to reuse your ceremony flowers in your reception decor.
Nominate a member of your wedding party or a friend to take care of this for you once the ceremony is over.
If this is not possible, mixing artificial flowers with real flowers along with greenery will make your budget go further. Plus greenery like rosemary and eucalyptus smell divine too 🌿

With all the current restrictions going on worldwide, couples are looking at alternative ways to get hitched. Elopements in Gibraltar are going crazy at the moment and we’ve heard of several ‘drive-in weddings’ too. We’re loving how creative people are being right now!

Procrastination is the worst 🤦🏼‍♀️. We all lead busy lives and it’s super easy to slip into the ‘I’ll do it tomorrow’ as I’ll have more time/kids are in school/boss is out...trap. Making decisions and moving on are the best way to go and we’ll be there every step of the way to guide you and ensure those decisions get made 🌟
