From the Bride… I always knew I wanted a destination wedding and considered several European locations as we wanted to make it very accessible for our family and friends travelling from Ireland. Being a Francophile since my school days, France was always going to be my preference.

I scoured the internet looking at venues in the Loire Valley as this was the best region for access from South West Ireland. When I found Le Moulin Brégeon it jumped off the computer screen at me, I instantly got a feel for the place and the kind of unique day we could create there. It is a lovingly restored 19 th century water mill in the heart of the countryside. We travelled to France for a weekend’s break and paid a visit to Le Moulin– it was the only venue we looked at.

One of France's more boisterous wedding, tradition involves continuing the celebration until very late at night. After the reception, those invited to the wedding will gather outside the newlyweds' window and bang pots and pans; this is called a shivaree. They are then invited into the house for some more drinks in the couple's honor, after which the couple is finally allowed to be alone for their first night together as husband and wife. This practice spread throughout France as a way to celebrate special occasions.

At Le Moulin Bregeon we look for something unique for the reception containers. This antique silver silver bowel holds a mix of rose and gardenia petals in shades of blushing pink and wrapped craft paper. In the Middle Ages, Handfuls of wheat were thrown over married couples to symbolize the hope for fertility. In modern times, rice is thrown instead of wheat to symbolize fertility. In recent years, flower petals have become another alternative, symbolizing beauty, happiness and prosperity.

For beautiful garlands, pick out your favorite flowers and get your tools ready. Mixing up some greens with a couple accent colors. Make sure to ask your florist for hardy flowers that won’t wilt too quickly. Once you put this together, there is no real easy way to keep it fresh.

Start putting together a mini bouquet/arrangement of your flowers. Once you are satisfied, loop a wire around to secure the bundle. Make more.

Once you have enough bundles, you can begin putting them together. Overlap the first bundle over the second so the stems are not visible. Take wire and bind together being careful to weave in between the top bundle in order to make the wire as conspicuous as possible. Continue until you have made your garland as long as you want. Make sure any weak points are secure with more wire. Now is the time to patch up any holes with extra flowers and stems.
