Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I've been reflecting on where I started and my business journey and where I am now.

When I was first unhappy in my corporate post I thought about becoming a VA. I did all the research, I got myself prepared etc and decided against it. Instead I retrained as a florist. I love being creative and I love flowers. It helped me immensely with my mental health and I did set up as a florist, specialising in weddings, workshops and demonstrations. I won some wedding awards and it was absolutely amazing to receive them. But I had the pull back to admin work, my background is with admin.

In hindsight should I have gone down the VA route back then as I would probably be well established now? I don't think so I have learned a lot from owning and running my own business and I have many transferrable skills so that I can help other businesses succeed.

They say that things happen for a reason and there is a time and a place for everything. The universe was telling me at that the time wasn't right to be a VA and by going full circle I believe that I have become a richer person.

Due to the current climate it is with regret that I have had to take the very difficult decision to stop doing wedding flowers and general floristry.

But don’t worry you will still be able to see me delivering workshops throughout the year and obviously at Christmas with my ever popular wreath workshops. I will also be continuing to do my demos at NAFAS flower clubs up and down the North East.

Thank you all for your custom and support and for all my lovely couples for choosing me as their wedding florist.

Why should you book me as your wedding florist?

Apart from my beautiful flowers there are other little extras you may or may not know about that make my customer service second to none.

To name a few

- I treat every wedding as if it were my own.
- I only choose the best seasonal flowers and British where possible.
- On the day of your wedding I'll be there to hand to move any florals around and generally make sure everything is in order.
- I always try to personally hand over your bouquet to you. (some venues try and take over 😂).
- Should there be the need I will pin on those buttonholes because can you trust the best man to do it?
- I carry a tool box which includes a sewing kit and tissues because you just never know.
- I love to see your wedding photos after your special day.
- You can bombard me with all those pictures you have been saving. It’s always good to see what flowers and arrangements you love.
- Those formal teardrop all wired bouquets? They are not my style. I love loose, informal and flowing bouquets.
- There are a few more surprises along the way but if I tell you they won't be a surprise!

I can't believe how fast 2022 is going we are almost in April. I only take a minimum number of weddings per year and 2022 and 2023 are is booking up fast particularly around those key dates. So don’t waste any time.

Happy Monday everyone.

I have just taken this photograph of Buffy after a pigeon (Brian). They have a mutual dislike of each other and the pigeon loves to taunt Buffy knowing full well she cannot reach her. I think her vision is to eventually catch it but if she did I don't know who would be more shocked, Buffy or Brian. However, her main goal is to remove the Brian from anywhere near the house or garden she often succeeds but never gives up.

It got me thinking how we can apply that to our goals, never give up trying, you may not achieve it straight away but keep going!

There is a lot to be learnt from our four legged friends!

One thing I hate about my job!

The plastic used to wrap the flowers! Why not use brown paper it’s more sustainable. I do save most of it and reuse as packaging.

The industry needs to cut down on the use of single use plastic!

Save the Sweet Peas So we went away for a few days last weekend for 4 nights. We left the baby sweet pea seedlings all nicely watered and happy. We came back and I don't know what had happened to them but they had just grown leggy and really long, falling over under their own weight. Time for a rescue mission. Top Tip No 5. DIY? Don’t take on too much Quite often florists receive frantic calls from brides on the day before their wedding panicking as they don’t have the time to complete the designs they had seen on Pinterest or the flowers they had purchased from their local market had died or not opened. Floristry is a professional skill and a qualification, saving money by doing your own flowers may in fact cost you double in the end. Leave it to the professionals. Top Tip No 4. Think about your budget and be prepared to be flexible. Most brides have an idea of what they like, dislike, what they expect. Your florist will aim to achieve all your expectations, but be flexible as your Pinterest dream may not be achievable due to seasonal flowers or indeed your budget. Whilst it’s always good to have a budget in mind, make sure this is reasonable and reflects the time, skill and passion of your chosen florist. For example, if you are wanting a certain flower, particularly out of season, your budget will need to mirror this. Carole can create stunning arrangements in classic, traditional, modern and vintage styles.

We offer a wide range of gifts, glassware, teddies, candles, balloons and cards to accompany your flowers. Based in Barnsley we cover the local area for floral arrangements and are able to offer a delivery service within a 10 mile radius of our studio (a minimum of 24 hours notice is required). With regard to weddings and events we cover a 25 mile radius but love the challenge of a new venue further afield.
