We would like to say a huge thank you to those who very generously donated to the Friends of Barton Parks Crowdfunding appeal to replace damaged/dead trees in both the Chad Varah Garden and the Redoubt Copse, at Baysgarth Park.

An incredible Ā£735 was raised via Crowdfunding, including a Ā£200 donation made by the Barton Lions, meaning the initial target of Ā£400 was exceeded.

Last month, Mark Nettleton and his team installed carefully selected new trees, purchased from a tree nursery and selected for their height to make sure they donā€™t look out of place. As the target was exceeded, the Friends group has also been able to work with MD Signs to order new name plates for each tree in the War Memorial for park visitors to continue paying their respects.

The Friends of Baysgarth Park is delighted the new CCTV system is up and running at Dam Road Park. Thanks to Barton Town Council, Safer Neighbourhoods, and North Lincolnshire Council, progress can now be made with the rest of the works planned for the site. āœ…

The new childrenā€™s play area is already being well used and it is great to see so many young people enjoying the equipment. The cameras will hopefully mean that the site has fewer incidents of vandalism and the planned fruit trees, hedging, green gym equipment and gardening area can be installed ready for the spring. šŸ’š

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has very kindly donated to the Crowdfunder appeal so that the Friends of Barton Parks can replace a number of trees in Baysgarth Park, including much-needed replacements for the Redoubt Copse. We know that this is an expensive time of year for everyone, so your generosity is very much appreciated.

It was particularly heartwarming for us to see a donation from a resident of Barton who still has connections with one of the Barton men who sadly lost his life during the war, and that the Memorial can be maintained to allow everyone to continue paying their respects. Thank you to Denise for the donation in memory of George William Thompson, her grandmotherā€™s late husband.

This week is National Tree Week! It marks the start of the tree planting season and is the perfect opportunity to connect with and celebrate trees in our area.

On the subject of trees we are pleased to share that, thanks to your incredibly generous donations, we have reached our initial target of Ā£400 to replace the trees in the Chad Varah Garden and the Redoubt Copse, including the memorial tree for Harry Clayton.

We have stretched the donationsā€™ target to Ā£740 as this will allow us to install new plaques which will help visitors to understand who the trees are in memory of, and why.

The Crowdfunder will only be open for another four days, so if you are in a position to do so please click the link below and help us achieve this target.

Thank you.

Weā€™re incredibly grateful for the generous donations made so far to the Baysgarth Park Tree Appeal for the Redoubt Copse and Chad Varah Garden.

Did you know that the Redoubt Copse is an official war memorial? The Copse was planted in memory of the 17 Barton men who gave their lives at The Battle of the Loos, on October 13, 1915. Sadly, the tree in memory of Harry Clayton is missing from the memorial and we know it would mean so much to the residents of Barton to have this rectified.

If you are in a position to do so, please consider donating via the link below. Donations mean that we are able to purchase another tree and have the memorial complete for park visitors to pay their respects.

The link to donate will remain open until 5pm on November 30.

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has so far donated to the Crowdfunder to replace two damaged trees in the Rebound Copse, and a willow tree in the Chad Varah Garden at Baysgarth Park. We are now 25% of the way to our target thanks to your generosity! šŸ’š

If anyone would like to donate, but hasnā€™t yet, donations will remain open for a couple more weeks on the link below. Alternatively, if you wish to make a cash or cheque donation you can do so in person at The Ropewalk for the attention of Liz Bennet, group treasurer.

Thank you.

Do you have any pictures of friends or family in Baysgarth Park over the years? (the older the better, particularly any pictures from the 1950s or 1960s). šŸ“ø

We are in the process of conducting a tree survey and pictures taken in the park that clearly show the trees over the years will really help us piece things together for the survey. šŸŒ³šŸŒ²

If you do have pictures that you are happy to share with us, please send them to [email protected] āœ…

The Friends of Barton Parks wishes to replace two damaged oak trees in the Redoubt Copse that form part of the memorial to 17 Barton men who were killed on October 13,1915 when the charge was made on the Hohenzollen Redoubt, near Loos in France, and a willow tree in the Chad Varah Garden.

The Parks group has started a Crowdfunder, linked below, so that anyone within the community who wishes to contribute can do so. Please take a few minutes to look at the Crowdfunder, and if youā€™re in a position to do so, consider making a monetary donation ā€“ we will be incredibly grateful for any amount you are able to donate.

Thank you.

Bartonā€™s beautiful parks are the perfect place to get some fresh air and let the kids tire themselves out by playing and exploring ā€“ and the best part is itā€™s completely free!

Hereā€™s a few suggestions of ways to keep the family busy in our parks:

šŸš² Enjoy a few laps of the cycle track in Baysgarth Park
šŸ‚ Collect autumn leaves to make a collage with at home
šŸ•· Hunt for creepy crawlies
šŸŒ³ Go conker picking
šŸ’¦ Splash in plenty of muddy puddles

Be sure to visit one of Bartonā€™s cafes or restaurants, all of which are within walking distance of a park, to warm up with a hot chocolate after a busy day of playing!

Friends of Barton Parksā€™ time as a Good Cause with the Co-op Local Community Fund has come to an end, and we would just like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to every single person who has a Co-op membership and selected us as their good cause.
