Following a sell out show back in January 2022 Desperate Journalist return to Esquires. The band formed in 2013 in North London. Their self released ‘Cristina’ EP and energetic early live shows soon caught the attention of ‘most indie man alive’ Simon Williams who promptly signed them to Fierce Panda records. Over a decade and 4 albums later, the post-punk foursome (Jo, Rob, Simon and Caz) have built a growing loyal fanbase around the UK and across Europe. Following on from the success of ‘Maximum Sorrow!’, 2023 saw the band play their biggest shows to date, supporting Suede on their sell out Autofiction tour. Tuesday 28th May - Charlotte White on Pepys Pin-up - Barbara Villiers. A Talk on Barbara Villiers Countess of Castlemaine was Charles II's most notorious mistress and a source of endless fascination to Samuel Pepys, but who was the woman behind the bad reputation?

Following a sell out talk at the The Samuel Pepys Club in London, local author and presenter Charlotte White has spent far too much time with this question and has strong opinions to share! Expect risque tales of s*x and politics at the court of the Merry Monarch.

Support our friend and Burlesque act Bootsy:
Modern Girl is a short documentary about female emancipation within a family and its surrounding community. Running time 28 mins.
Grace Hall presents her short documentary, Modern Girl, as part of Pride of Place Bedford’s six-week programme of events produced by local artists, creatives and community groups.
Grace was born in the Midlands and lived in London for 10 years before moving to Bedford last year; she hopes this is the first of many events in which she can creatively engage with her community and share her work.
The evening will be an informal viewing of the film, with an opportunity to ask Grace any questions about the film afterwards. Doors will open at 6.30pm; please feel free to BYOB – there will be nibbles available, as well as bottle openers and glasses.

After several years of thinking, dreaming, plotting, building & tweaking...

I'm excited to announce, I've finally launched my PATREON.

It's the inner circle, a place where I can share and connect more and on a deeper level than anywhere else before and build a little (or maybe a large) fan club community!

Patrons of the Arts have been around for hundreds of years and this is the modern version! It's a place where fans can subscribe monthly, with a variety of tiers to choose from to receive exclusive content, behind the scenes, hang outs, new/unreleased songs, patron-only videos and so much more, helping to keep artists making art.

It's more of an ongoing community space than a specific project 'crowd funder'. Two quite different things. Though I will be sharing the making of my next project on Patreon (things are ramping up there!)
