Hello everyone!
Unfortunately I have had to make the big decision to cancel this year's Medieval Festival.
Brecon Cathedral is set to embark on some restoration works and the whole site is likely to be under some work. It's therefore not safe or idyllic enough to hold the festival on the grounds. We plan to come back even bigger and better than previous years so stay tuned!

Awesome episode of "Welsh Lives" featuring our boys Medieval Combat Wales with some footage of this year's Brecon Medieval Festival.

Meet Medieval Combat Wales - a group of fighters who compete in the brutal sport of buhurt. Think MMA but with swords, shields, and a lot more medieval mayhem.

The Murder Mystery event has now sold out! Massive thanks to those that bought tickets! It's going to be fun!

Reminder that there are still plenty of tickets available for The Lord of the Rings music event on the Sunday!

Not long to go now!
Thanks to everyone that has bought tickets to The Murder Mystery and the Lewis Merthyr Band evening events! This really does help cover the running costs of the festival, making it a free entry event to all during the day! We strongly believe that events like this should be free and inclusive to provide education and entertainment to anyone, regardless of their financial situation. Families can have a free day out and learn about our heritage and culture.
There are still some Murder Mystery tickets available and plenty of tickets for the final concert. Tickets for the concert will be available on the door but not for the murder mystery event, so grab your ticket now!

We are super excited for this year's festival!

Stay tuned to see the running order of things..

Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Where is the event Located? When?
Brecon Cathedral. 4th and 5th May. Doors open at 10.30am each day.

2. What is the parking situation?
There is limited parking. Some next to the cathedral but not much. If you are fit and healthy, park in town in one of the carparks. The largest is near the bus station.

3. How much to get into the event?
It's free. But if you wish to leave a donation that would be great, but you are not obliged. We have ticketed events in the evening, Murder Mystery on Saturday night and Music from The Lord of the Rings on the Sunday night. All profits go towards the running of the whole festival.

4. Are Dogs allowed?
Yes. Keep your furry pal on a lead and pick up their poo!

5. Will there be food and drink on site?
Yes, we have a Hog Roast and Viking Fries both days and Pizza Box joining us on Sunday. Antur Brewery are selling Ale and Larger, Ty Madoc Farm are selling Apple juice and cider, Award winning local Mead producers Afon Mel will join us this year too! Not to mention there is The Hours café and Bookshop on site too!

6. Where is the program for the day?
I'm finalizing it now and will post it on here before the event and print some out for the day. Here you will be able to see what's happening throughout the day.

7. Is the site disabled friendly?
To some extent yes. The outside grounds are all accessible although there is an incline on the grass meadow out the back where the reenactment group are based. To get into the cathedral building using a wheelchair is possible using a wheelchair lift. (Not supportive enough for motorised wheelchairs) please be mindful that the lift can take a while to work and is susceptible to braking.

8. Is the Event Child Friendly?
Yes! There is a lot for them to learn and lot of entertainment on site too!

9. Do I need a ticket?
No, just show up. It's free. You will need a ticket for the evening events.

10. Is the event inside or outside?
The Event is both indoors and outdoors. If it's raining we will bring the market inside. The Reenactment group will still be outside.. they like the rain.

11. Can I help in some way?
Yes of course! Message me if you want to get involved!

12. Do I have to dress in medieval style clothes?
Not if you don't want to. It would be great if you did! We have some costumes available for people to borrow!

"The Freemen of Gwent portray a self contained band of mercenary fighters on campaign. Whilst combat is an exciting and important part of the overall display, it is by no means the only element. An encampment that re-creates the life of people in the medieval age, with living history and craft displays, is busy throughout the day. Wood smoke from the cooking fire, the smell of food cooking, archers loosing at the butts, squires repairing armour, and the clash of steel on steel all combine to transport us back to an earlier time."
