Hove & Kingsway BC

Hove & Kingsway BC We’re a friendly, inclusive club with players of all ages. We have 2 six-rink greens, a bar and café.

15/01/2025

Our thanks to Rachel for the music last weekend. This week we have the return of The Stuntman, and who doesn't love a bit of rock n roll and all that other great stuff they give us!

There's an updated list on the website (click on the 'EVENTS' tab), of entertainment for the next few weeks, and as always thanks to Kev for sorting this. Great stuff in there as usual.

That starts at three (honest) so gives you time for Sunday lunch, book via [email protected].

AGM coming on 1st February, 11 am start. The bar will be open following the meeting so bring a thirst and relax for a while before facing the rest of the afternoon.

I shouldn't need to say it every week, but just in case there are those who haven't heard, NO PARKING on the driveway; loading and unloading only!

Thanks. See you Sunday.

07/01/2025

Hello again! I trust you all enjoyed your week off! We're back again the coming Sunday (12th Jan) with the sounds of Rachel, who's been popular on her previous visits, so come and enjoy her performance from 3pm (the club opens at 12:00, just in case you've forgotten).

Sunday lunch booking via [email protected].

A couple of reminders -

AGM on Saturday 1st February, 11:00 am start. Any items for the agenda, nominations or volunteers for committee positions to [email protected]

There is no parking allowed on the access road; loading & unloading only; this is a council stipulation and failure to comply may have repercussions for the club in addition to financial penalties for the motorist, so we thank you for your observance of this.

03/01/2025

A reminder that there's nothing happening at the club this coming Sunday (5th January), i.e. we're closed, but we'll be back on the 12th with entertainment from Rachel, so come on down for that. We'll let you know about other happenings nearer the time, but don't forget the AGM!

This happens on Saturday 1st February in the clubhouse, be there for an 11am start. If you have anything to add to the agenda please let Davie Peacock know by 12th January (email [email protected]) and for nominations to the committee, or to volunteer yourself, same address. If you don't wish to email (or can't), we still accept old-school written submissions, so drop a letter off on the 12th if you're in the vicinity.

While your here, a final point - parking on the new access road is not permitted at any time. As per the signage, you could land yourself with a penalty charge, and if its perceived that club members/visitors are parking this may have repercussions for the club. Pick-up and drop-off is still permitted. Thanks for your assistance in this.

31/12/2024

A very happy new year from everyone here to everyone there!

Enjoy yourselves tonight and remember you've got 11 days recover before the club is back open with Rachel on 12th January 2025.

25/12/2024

Wishing all our members & their families, and all our friends the best for Christmas. And the staff, obviously (especially the staff)!

We'll be back on Sunday for the Mad Badger triple-set and hope to see you there, open at 12 as usual!

23/12/2024

Thanks go to Retro Ralph for performing at our as-close-as-we-can-get-to-Christmas do. Next week, (Sunday 29th December) we have our as-close-as-we-can-get-to-New Year's Eve celebration featuring the marvellous Mad Badger, with not one, not two, but THREE sets giving us a great afternoon of music as only they can.

Note that the Sunday after, 5th January 2025, we will be closed, but we'll be back on Sunday the 12th, with a return performance from the talented Rachel.

Don't forget, Sunday lunch bookings can be made via [email protected]

In the meantime, a very happy Christmas to all those celebrating! We'll see you for the Badger!

17/12/2024

As expected, a great afternoon's music last Sunday from Kayla & the Cards, well worth coming down for.

This week, for our as-close-as-we-can-get-to-Christmas celebration, who else but the man of a million* tunes, Retro Ralph. He's sure to get you singing along/up dancing (or both, depending on your preferences) and he'll be starting at 3, carrying on into the evening.

Also, Sunday lunch available - book via [email protected] or just pop down.

*might not be quite a million but it's a lot!

There were a few hardy souls braving the weather last weekend for Burning Skies, thanks for your support.

This Sunday, 15th December, we have Kayla & The Cards, who we have had a couple of times before and they have always delivered a great afternoon for us. Three o'clock start as usual, and I'm reliably informed the weather will be better!

Rebecca's kitchen will be open again for Sunday roasts and stuff (technical term!) and you can book directly with them at [email protected] (note the spelling).

Good to see a good crowd enjoying themselves on our re-opening (well, Rob was anyway!). Thanks to Table 12 for doing the honours!

This Sunday (8-12-24) we have Burning Skies (who are nothing if not entertaining) starting at 3 (roughly, we know what they're like).

Sunday lunch also available.

The music until the end of the year is posted on the website if you want to see what we've got to look forward to!

See you soon.

25/11/2024

I know everyone's been awaiting news of our reopening so we're happy to announce we'll be open this Sunday (1st December) from noon until 8pm, with our old friends Table 12 giving it some with their favourite tunes for our entertainment.

While it will be good to see everyone after all this time, we do ask that you exercise a little patience, as it's still all new, and everyone is to some extent finding their way around!

Also, bear in mid that the old driveway is, at time of writing, still a construction site, so access probably won't be possible down that route; to reach the club, use the footpath between the greens, accessible midway along 'D' green (beware bicycles). Note that lighting is only functioning along the front of the building, so take care if you leave after dark.

The plan is that we're open with music every Sunday throughout December (but still subject to confirmation, both the opening and the music) so we hope to see you soon.

03/11/2024

Our thanks to everyone who came along to help with the furniture assembly yesterday (and those who have helped with the move previously).

We are making progress, but unfortunately we're still unable to give a re-opening date. More news as we have it.

Thanks for your patience.

It's going!

28/09/2024

Squeezed in between the storms and wind & rain of the past few days and tomorrow, today's decent(ish) weather has enabled our final finals to be played, after being postponed from finals day because of injury, congestion, etc etc.

The final results -
Ladies Singles - Pat Gerard beat Helen Woodcock-Downey
Aussie Pairs - Nick Daly & Nick Sowicz beat Paul Horsted & Marc Duson.

Congratulations to winners, commiserations to the runners-up.

We have also had the final stages of the Dave Lee Shield. The four qualifiers from the group stage (three group winners plus best runner-up) were Davie Peacock, Louis Carresi, Barry Hancock & Kevin Bell, giving semi-finals of Barry v Davie and Louis v Kevin.

The final was played today between Kevin Bell & Davie Peacock, resulting in victory for Kevin.

Congratulations Kevin, a great achievement.

That brings to an end the bowling for this season; we hope for more of the same next year. Thanks everyone who participated, not only in the club competitions but also all the other bowls over the season, be it national, county, league or friendly, and thank you also to everyone helping out organising fixtures, picking teams etc.

Have a good indoor season, those participating, and we'll be in touch about reopening soon as we can.

17/09/2024

Well, that's it then.

It is no more, it is an ex-clubhouse.

Thanks to Table 12 for seeing us out, thanks to those that came along and enjoyed the hospitality on offer, and thanks for the memories.

We'll see you soon for more good times in our new clubhouse. We can't put a date on it as there's still a fair amount of things to sort out to get ready for the re-opening but rest assured we'll let you know once everything is ready.

Don't forget there's no music this Sunday, and it's definitely not starting at 3ish. We're closed!

P.S. We won the cup!

15/09/2024

While many have been enjoying the clubhouse farewell, a group of 8 of our bowlers have been facing similar from Woodingdean in the final of the Bill Hawkins Trophy.
Happy to announce that we came out victorious, with hands being shaken after 18 ends with our team leading 39-22.
Congratulations all.

13/09/2024

Music this week is Table 12, originally planned as our leaving do prior to relocation, but as most are aware there are (more) of the inevitable hiccups so we might well be delayed. Watch this space (or your inbox) for updates about that.

If you don't fancy Table 12, there's also our Bill Hawkins Trophy final taking place at Peacehaven Bowls Club, where we'll be playing Woodingdean 'A', the match beginning at 2pm. Go well lads!

I don't know who has or hasn't seen Phil's posts, so it bears repeating that the total raised during the Bank Holiday Charity Day is just over £9,200.

If you have a spare fiver, tenner or more, you can still donate via the Just Giving page! It'd be nice to make it a nice round £10k!
