Volunteer Role: Thursday Family Kids Club

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and caring volunteer to support Thursdays Family Kids Club at The Bevy.

This role involves welcoming families, helping set up activities, assisting with crafts and games, and ensuring a fun and inclusive environment for children and parents alike.

Volunteers will play a key role in creating a warm, engaging space where families can connect and enjoy quality time together. No experience is needed—just a friendly attitude and a passion for working with children and families.

VOULNTEER NEEDED, to help out with our seniors club every Friday 12-3: please email - [email protected]

Did you know we hold a seniors over 50’s luncheon club?

Our Seniors luncheon club is a great way to meet new people, it’s such a welcoming atmosphere and they are a great bunch 🥰

They meet every Friday 12-3 for some delicious lunch and pudding and just to have a chat with others 🍮

No need to book just show up on the day

They also have a fab game of bingo and a raffle with some great prize to be won 🏆

We would love to see you ❤️

On the menu this week: sausage casserole with veg and gravy 🌭

Dessert is: a delicious chocolate Swiss roll 🍫

Rhubarb! Did you know Nine more plants have gone into our veg garden. 🥔

Fed with our very own rocket compost. Crumble for the seniors is coming up . 🍎

Oh and we disturbed a frog (that won't be put in a pudding but hopefully will eat the slugs)🐌 🐸

Brush off those January blues at the Bevy this weekend. 🥳

It's Family Thursday at 3.30pm today. Free activities and free food for all the family. 🍔

Fridays we've got job club at 11 and seniors lunch club at 12. 👨‍💼👩‍💼

Then it's the disability disco from 7 but don’t worry everyone is welcome 🪩

Saturday we are open for breakfasts from 9am 🍳

We will be celebrating the Bevendean Down 400th parkrun. But don’t panic don't have to run it to enjoy a breakfast! 🏃

💙 On the Blog 💙
It can be difficult to reconcile that a child might be depressed. Depression is often something we think of as being an ‘adult’ mental health disorder. We can think that it comes later in life when, as adults, life has become more difficult and overwhelming.

😔 But depression is something that is also seen in children and the aim of this blog is to highlight some of the ways you may be able to spot depression and ways that you may be able to support your child.

😔 If you are concerned that your child is depressed, please contact your GP in the first instance. There are a number of charities and organisations that can also help to support you and some of these are signposted at the bottom of this blog.

😔 Just like any mental health disorders, depression has different levels and if we are able to spot the early signs, we may be able to make small changes that can make a difference before it worsens.

What does depression look like in children?

It is a change from their ‘normal’ behaviour. This may include (some but not all) of the following:

☹️ Increased tiredness, lack of energy
☹️ Decreased interest in activities they used to enjoy
☹️ Increased grumpiness, over-reacting emotionally
☹️ Sadness or low-mood that doesn’t lift
☹️ Changes in eating patterns; not having an appetite or wanting to overeat
☹️ Not wanting to spend time with friends or family
☹️ Finding it more difficult to focus or concentrate
☹️ Feeling less confident and less able to make decisions.
☹️ Changes in sleeping; unable to sleep or always wanting to sleep and not wanting to get out of bed

If you are concerned about your child, please take a moment to take a read of our blog. Early intervention is always the best approach.
