DISOBEY (.now) is a Free Party Collective formed by people from across the constellation of organisations in the UK fighting for social and climate justice.

💥 Their tagline is RAGE RAVE RESIST and this pretty much sums up their approach to social change.

Culture Of CARE helped provide the sound tech, promo and facilitation logistics of these events and we managed to get a great, full crowd down every time into the secret Basement 6 Bunker 🔥 Oxygen was literally running short at the end of each night!

Spaces that make you feel joyful, empowered and held should be accessible and regular. We cannot wait to be a part of more such spaces in the future.

🌍💃 ONE WORLD : ONE DANCE 💃🌍

Sussex University

In this time of global tension, coming together has never been more important. So we did just that, sheltered under the towering Magenta HiFi SoundSystem and all it's good vibrations () 🔊

This sound system event, hosted in the stunning Debating Chamber at Sussex University, was a fundraiser for The Amos Trust, an organisation doing vital grassroots work on the ground in Palestine 🇵🇸

We raised an incredible £350 which, combined with the £150 raised at Magenta's last outing (IYKYK 😉) totals a £500 donation we will be sending through to them! All thanks to the generosity of our community ❤️💚🖤

Roots Community Garden () has been a vital space for generations of Sussex University students looking for a place to grow organic food, connections and themselves 🍅

We were delighted to support them for the biggest social event they have ever had! 🥕

We brought the Magenta HiFi Sound System into the Room76 Venue () for an evening of roots, reggae and dub music to warm our souls against the winter cold and bring over 70 people from the Roots Community and friends together 🌱

It was an incredible evening full of life and joy! We had speakers from the Roots Garden and Palestine Solidarity Brighton about their ongoing campaigns, ensuring that the space was grounded in action beyond the dancehall. 🌀

We are already building up for our NEXT Soundsystem event at the end of January, details coming soon 🔥

We hope you had a lovely Yule, Christmas and New Year and feel energised for the year to come! Together, grounded in Cultures of Community, Action, Resilience and Empowerment (CARE), we can achieve so much!

It all starts with us coming together and trusting in the incredible power of just that act. We cannot wait to host many more events and spaces for this in the year to come. 🌞

🇵🇸 This World Music Sound System Session is being put on in support of a Free Palestine, with ALL donations from ticket sales being sent to The Amos Trust, an organisation doing vital grassroots, on-the-ground work in Gaza.

🌞 Global Justice Now Youth Network Summer Gathering 🌞

Laughton Lodge, East Sussex

Culture Of CARE, with our partner Magenta HiFi, was invited to be the sound logistics and technical leads for the summer gathering where 60 young activists gathered at Laughton Lodge in East Sussex for a weekend of workshops, music and community building.

There were incredible speakers, empowering workshops and fun activities throughout the weekend and we finished the final night with a party, featuring the band and Vientos, followed by DJs. Running multiple instruments through sound systems in not-ideal spaces is difficult but our sound wizard managed to smooth it all out.

Having a versatile setup is very important for working with smaller scale organisations and unconventional spaces.

🌲 Sound System Powerhouse of the South East 🌲

Sound System culture has always been centered around resistance, social change and justice. The culture was brought to the UK in the fifties with the arrival of the Windrush Generation from the Carribbean and since then it has fuelled dancehalls, raves and protests alike.

🌀 Sound Systems are meeting places of people, ideas and cultures, all brought together by a love of the literal and metaphorical vibrations of these spaces. These are particularly emphasised when complimented with conscious, positive music spreading visions of peace, unity, connection and love.

✊ Magenta HiFi aims to continue this long tradition of sound systems supporting social justice causes and creating spaces for people to come together. At this time, when the world feels so heavy with tragedy and injustice, we can ground ourselves in these spaces of community and use them as energising launchpads to go out and affect social justice locally and globally. 🌍

As they say, the only good system is a sound system and as we work to dismantle the systems of oppression that exist all around us and promote a Culture Of CARE in their place, sessions with Magenta HiFi will be one place we know we can come to let off steam and find joy in the dance.
