For Matt and Ant 🧡

A lovely floral bowl, filled with roses, cosmos, dahlias, sunset buff calendula, scabious and crocosmia. Even a few little viburnum berries hiding in amongst there. They also had matching bud vases on each table and some lovely little buttonholes (but I forgot to get pictures of them 🙈)

Thanks for asking me and sending you and Ant a huge congratulations (again!)

One of a few jam jar style arrangements that went out today as a thank you to teachers and teaching assistants - some who are just finishing for the summer and some who are moving on to pastures new.

A lovely combo of cosmos, achillea, snapdragons, daucus, ammi and delphinium.

Huge thanks to for the beautiful flowers that were dropped off yesterday morning to create these!

Pink - the perfect color to bring romance, elegance, and a touch of whimsy to your wedding day.

By layering different shades, from blush through to fuschia, introducing a few complementary colours such as whites and soft greens, and combining different textures, this really helps create rich, dynamic arrangements with a fresh, luxurious feel.

Falling in love with yellow 💛🌼🍋

As a florist, I really do love using colour and the opportunity it provides to think carefully about the colours and shades that I combine within each arrangement. However, as I’ve eluded to before, there’s one colour that’s always made me a bit wary - yellow

Why? I’m not entirely sure, because generally speaking, I do love yellow! But the more I think about it, the more I wonder if it’s because I didn’t see many stereotypically ‘beautiful’ flowers in yellow growing up.

Instead, I perhaps associated the colour with the buttercups we’d often pick on the school field or the abundance of daffodils growing right at the side of the road. Whilst this evokes very happy memories, it doesn’t exactly scream beautiful wedding florals.

However, having recently worked on a styled shoot where there was absolutely no shying away from yellow, I discovered that yellow can be really quite beautiful.

Using a variety of British Claire de Lune Peonies, crème brûlée tulips, ranunculus, wallflower, solidago, and ofcourse, lots and lots of lemons, dare I say, I fell in love with this colour!

What do you think? Is yellow a colour you’d choose?

Hey 👋🏻

It’s been a while since I did my first introductory post and given that there’s lots of new faces that have since joined my little corner of the internet, i figured it was about time that I reintroduced myself!

I’m Ash, the face behind In The Meadow Floral Design, an eco-conscious floral design studio based on the southern edge of the Lake District.

I do a small number of gift bouquets, floral workshops, and funerals, however, my passion lies in working with couples to design and create relaxed, garden inspired, wedding florals, using British flowers.

A few things about me…

I set up In The Meadow at the beginning of July last year, which means I’m coming up to a whole year in business 🎉 🎂

Prior to this, I was a primary teacher, having trained in Primary Education with advanced specialism in SEN/Inclusion (hello organisational skills!!) 👩🏻‍🏫🍎

I’ve always been super creative. I studied art and design at college and LOVE to try out new crafts - painting, printing, ceramics, knitting, sewing… I love them all ✍️🎨🧵

As well as one small human and one not so small Labrador, I have three chickens called Bea, Olive and Alma and would LOVE to one day get some runner ducks! Even better, a whole smallholding! 🐾🐓🦆

Art galleries, bookshops, garden centres, fabric shops and haberdasheries are all very dangerous places for my bank account (yes, I’m a bit of a granny at heart) 🖼️📚🪴🧶

I’m a barefoot, bonfire and bbq on the beach kinda gal - even better if there’s a cider in one hand and toasted marshmallows in the other 🔥🌊🍺

So that’s me, in a nutshell! If you think we might be a good match, and that you would like to work with me, I would absolutely love to hear from you.

Ash 🌸

Ellie came to me with a very clear idea of her and her fiancé, Jamie’s colour palette - burgundy, ivory and navy.

As you’ve probably guessed, true navy is a particularly rare colour to find in the flower world, never mind when you are trying to work with the most seasonal flowers but the wedding in March!!

However, that didn’t stop me from finding a solution in the form of this gorgeous anemone, that has the most beautiful navy centre, which complemented the Jamie’s suit wonderfully.

Working with seasonal, British flowers may take a little extra thought and organisation, but it’s certainly not impossible.

For Charlotte 💕

Charlotte approached me earlier in the year, to ask whether I’d be able to make her a bridal bouquet, bridesmaids bouquet and a few buttonholes, for her gorgeous elopement.

I got her booked in for a consultation, which lasted about 10 minutes or so (by far, the quickest consultation I’d ever had), because the only specification Charlotte had was a mixture of pinks and purples - she trusted me to sort the rest.

I guided Charlotte through what would be seasonal (tulips, ranunculus, butterfly ranunculus) and then we looked at flowers we could import to add a little more diversity and interest into the bouquet, settling on roses, matthiola and veronica.

I had the absolute pleasure of delivering these to Charlotte this time last week, which means today marks one whole week of marriage!

Thank you so much for asking me to be a part of such a special day.

Whether it’s a small elopement, or a wedding with 100+ guests, it’s always so special to be a part of your big day.

A family affair 🌸 💍 🥂

How beautiful does and her husband Tom look on these gorgeous photos from their UK wedding day?

Lucy and Tom had a very special, intimate celebration at Kendal Town Hall, with just their families, ahead of their big day in Mallorca. Which meant Tom’s talented brother could take their photos for them 💕

Sending you both a huge congratulations and wishing you the most magical day in Mallorca.

Getting married? Still looking for your florist? Pop me a message or send me an email, with your date, venue and colour palette, and let’s see what we can design together 🌸💕

A huge thank you to everyone who has followed me over the last 24 hours.

A little introduction for those of you who don’t know me or my business…

I’m Ash - wife to John, mum to Seth, owner of Drake the boisterous Labrador and owner of In The Meadow.

In the Meadow is a new eco-conscious floral design company, based in Burton-in-Kendal, specialising in soft, romantic, garden inspired florals.

We are passionate about working sustainably with British flowers, working closely with a number of flower farmers across the North West, and ensure that all of our flowers are arranged using sustainable methods, meaning no floral foam or single use plastics.

We have been on Instagram for a little over 7 months now but have had many requests to move over to Facebook too, so here we are.

So if you find yourself in need of a bouquet, wanting to make a flower crown, wreath or vase arrangement, or planning a wedding, we’d love to hear from you!

Much love,

Ash 🌸
