This time of year there are lots of pregnant ewes around. As well as continuing to make sure dogs are kept on leads and away from livestock, ewes getting "cast" is also an issue in which the public can be of assistance.
This video shows a cast ewe being righted (although this one is little tubby rather than being in lamb!) This horrendous weather is also not helping as thier fleece can be waterlogged and weigh them down.
If you spot a sheep lying in this position, please feel free to approach slowly and quietly (WITHOUT trusty pooch in tow) and tip it up. It may well leap up before you reach it, and remember today isn't the day to die ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ but will otherwise be very greatful for your assistance, as will its farmer/slave!
Sheep.....the founders of 101 ways to die or escape!

Scanning day for the lady sheeps today!! Our girls will be finding out how many babies they are carrying. Obviously hoping everyone is in lamb, but hopefully not carrying too many!
Waiting with baited breath like an anxious Grandma!

We have another handful of store lambs almost ready
I will contact those I have on my reserve list, but let me know if you would like some lamb!!
Raised on the Blackdown Hills and treated like part of the family. All our sheep are only grass fed, making the meat far tastier and less fatty than the supermarket equivalent.
We supply as half or a whole, and deliverered directly from the butcher.
Below is our pet sheep "Muffin". Our Little boys fav, but the most unhelpful sheep to walk this Earth!!

Hair cut day for sheepies!!
All our sheep, except the babies have been sheared today. The team were out nice and early in the cool morning getting fleeces flying!
Shearing keeps sheep cool in the warmer months and reduces the risk of parasitic infestation (flystrike from flies ๐Ÿฅต๐Ÿคฎ most commonly) and disease. It also reduces the risk of sheep becoming 'rigged' or 'cast' which means getting stuck on their backs due to a waterlogged fleece, which can make them vulnerable to attack by crows or other predators.

We've had many enquiries about lamb boxes recently, and many of those from returning customers (which is always a good sign we've been doing something right!)
Sadly, we wont have any lamb boxes for sale for the time being
Due to this years soaring temperatures, our grass has taken a hit and we've had to feed our sheep hard feed to keep them from going hungry. This tends to create fattier meat with less flavour, just like supermarkets sell!!
We pride ourselves on raising grass fed organic meat and dont feel we want to be selling substandard lamb to our loyal customers.
Please bare with us while the ground recovers and we get back to breeding season in readiness to raising good quality lamb again. Pictured, a few of our ladies patiently waiting for a new "man" to arrive!! ๐Ÿ‘

And that, Ladies and Gents, is a wrap!!
The last of 2021 lambs have now made their way to a dinner table!
We hope all our lovely customers have enjoyed their lamb boxes. It's been an absolute privilege to produce our own lambs to the highest welfare standards
And yesterday, we welcomed some new blood lines to our little flock ๐Ÿ‘

This is "Buttercup". The only lamb to take exploring to the next level. Thought he break through some fencing and go for a swim!
But couldn't get out. Cold and tired but otherwise unhurt. A night at home to recover with some fluids (good job mum is a Vet Nurse huh Buttercup?! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ) And yes, that's the kitchen! Patiently waiting for breakfast! Who says farmers dont love their livestock!?

Thanks for the follows!!
A little bit about us.....We are a little family from South West Somerset with a farming and Veterinary background. After the arrival of our little miracle boy, I (Kerry) was looking for something to keep me entertained and something we could do at the weekends as a family for a source of income. With some close friends who raise organic pork locally, and our hog roasting machine, there birthed The Darling Hogs Of May!!
Then Covid hit............ :(
I have since gone back to work in the Veterinary industry as a Registered Nurse and Nigel busy as ever in the farming industry. Both classed as key/essential workers and both busier than ever. The roasting machine was sold to help raise much needed funds for us to survive financially so the new venture went by the wayside
So 2021......we've stretched our farming muscles further, have increased the size of our sheep flock. So this year we are producing a different type of "Hogg"! We will be finishing more of our own lambs so hit us up if you are looking for lamb boxes!
Local organically raised lamb, which is loved and cherished (when they're not escaping or trying to commite su***de! ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ)
Please message for further details

We are still planning on starting to trade later this year!! Just as we were getting organised (between full time jobs/maternity leave!) the world has gone mad!!
Please keep in touch if you have an event planned for which you would like a Hogroast
Remember, your local butchers, bakers and farmshops are likely to have produce in as our farmers wont be stopping work. Still cows to milk, lambs to bring into the world and lots of mouths to feed!!
Stay safe everyone, see you on the other side!
