🌲 Wintery Opening Hours & Special Events 🌲

The Yarnery will be open to the public as usual until December 23rd at 3:30. Between Christmas and New Year I will be opening the shop to customers, Afternoon Purlers and Hookers for some special events on specific days. I realise how important it is to some of my community, those that live far from family, don’t want to be with family or live alone to be together and to be creative on the regs. So I’ll be here for you.

There will be social yarny gatherings on the 27th and 30th December with Prosecco, coffees and snacks. Spaces will need to be booked so I know who to expect but shoppers and browsers will be welcome throughout.

I’m always here if you’ve got any questions!

THRILLED to be stocking these hand dyed beauties from Moonlight Fibre 🌕💫

I asked Jo to send me hanks I’d love and she smashed the brief. Before I could unbox it, customers took it out of my hands so I actually haven’t got a picture of all of them 🫣 But here’s a little taster for you before you come in to The Yarnery to grab your next haul!

I wanted episode two of to sink in a bit before I posted again about it.

Of course, I’ve spent a lot of time this week discussing it with students, customers and group members and I think I’ve deduced that the show just isn’t for people who can already knit and crochet. We desperately want it to be. But it isn’t. People are left feeling really frustrated that opportunities have been missed to explain different techniques and styles. Meadow, after working in to the back loop of her knitting (which by the way can be done, it’s not wrong it just gives a different finish) in my opinion, shouldn’t have been told off by the judges but asked why she chose to do it like that. New knitters could have learned something fun. What’s so great about being a new knitter is that you can try things without feeling worried that it’s going to be judged.

No one should be crying when they’re doing something they love. Yes, it’s a competition and there needs to be an element of risky business for the viewers but yarn craft isn’t like that in rl. It’s joyous.

I will be watching episode three and again want to say that the contestants are all fabulous. I don’t know what the answer is, I’m just posting my thoughts now that I’ve let episode two percolate and it’s not sitting very well with me.

Two spaces have become available on Tuesday evening Hookers with Hooking Good at The Yarnery 🧶 What are you waiting for, Yarnies?

Two spaces have become available on Tuesday Evening Hookers starting November 18th

6:30 - 8:30
Bookable in six week blocks

If you’ve been waiting for a space on the evening sessions - this is your sign!

While you think about it, enjoy this glorious African Flower highland cow by Julie one of my Tuesday day hookers who used James C. Brett pure cotton and skills learnt at The Yarnery to create it. Julie hardly ever crochets things for herself (it’s been noted) - this masterpiece was crocheted for a friend of hers who just loves highland cows and so with the help of Rea, another of my Hookers, to find the perfect pattern, she set to with a hook and some determination and worked up this lovely moo. Well done Julie! What’s next?
