British funeral flowers in February 🌿

This sheaf was created for a friend's father who loved the woodland. I was asked if I could incorporate trails of ivy, white heather & other yellow & white flowers.

There is plenty of ivy, in various shades including variegated, around my garden, so I cut nice selection to complement the blooms.

I like to include scent if possible, which in this case was provided by sarcococca & some white narcissi.

I think this sustainable, foam free tribute would look quite at home in a woodland setting 🌿

Church Flowers on 1st February

I'm fortunate to have some generous friends in the village, who let me snip a few branches from their gardens when I need to decorate our church.

I put this arrangement together yesterday, with every ingredient sourced from mine & two other gardens, all less than half a mile from the church.

The hanging tassels of garrya are the star of the show, with back up from pinky white viburnum flowers, ivy berries, hazel catkins & red stemmed cornus.

I used my trusty Holly Chapple pillow for stem support & clean water, nothing else.

I love the challenge of using what's available in our gardens at any time of year, to provide seasonal & sustainable arrangements for our village church & community 🌿

Signs of hope 💚

Drawn outside this morning by the clear blue skies & calm nature of the wind, I felt the urge to do do some gardening, something I've not had the energy to do for a few weeks now.

It must have been that dose of vitamin D, but I was out there planting shrubs & bulbs, barrowing woodchip & generally having a poke about to see what was happening out there.

And it was wonderful to see those plants that had braved the elements & come into bloom. I'm suddenly feeling inspired to make plans for some areas of the garden that are due a makeover 🌿

I went to check the church flowers today & top the water up & was really pleased to see how fresh the display still looked after a fortnight. All seasonal & village grown ingredients, so just viburnum, Holly berries, grasses & several different kinds of foliage to add vibrancy & texture.

Ive been out in the garden today doing a few jobs; it was cold but I ended up staying out there for several hours in the end (you know what it’s like once you start wandering around the garden..!) and felt quite satisfied with myself.

A pack of tulip Slawa bulbs were planted, beds weeded, branches cut back & chopped up for the green bin and some photos taken of anything interesting that caught my eye.

Have you done any gardening today?

Embracing dried florals 🌸

While I wait for my garden to start producing flowers, I am creating pieces of art using some of my dried florals. These will come with me to local markets or are bespoke commissions created for customers.

I really enjoy using dried flowers in this way and seeing what new products can be created with them. They have had a resurgence in recent years and are a sustainable way of using this natural material.

I'll also be using dried flowers in some of my workshops this year too, details will be released soon of Spring workshops in my studio. If you'd like to be the first to hear about these, do sign up to my subscriber community, just get in touch to find out how.

British funeral flowers in January 🌿

Can you get beautiful British grown flowers in the darkest, coldest months?
Yes you can, courtesy of of some great wholesale companies in the UK. I sourced most of these blooms from BJ Richards in Cornwall, to supplement my own garden foliage, coloured stems & scented sarcoccoca & rosemary. These gave the arrangement a natural, wild look that my customer had requested ( and is also my signature style).

Swipe through to see how I first arranged the foliage & filler flowers to form the base of this flat backed bouquet. The main yellow, white & blue focal flowers were then threaded through to form the design, with stems of yellow dogwood & curly willow added to give that wild, nature inspired finish. A twist of natural hessian ribbon was used to hold it all together.

Funeral flowers are just beautiful flowers 🌸
