Happy Easter! It has been a tradition in our Cotswold village to gather primroses on Good Friday for an Easter cross. My grandmother and mum, did this and ,as a child, I went with my sister and cousins to the local coppice to gather them too. We were sent off with a hot cross bun, a mushroom chip and a pocket full of onion bands to create lovely little posies of butter yellow primroses. These were then used to create the cross to hang on the pulpit on Easter Sunday. Now I pick primroses from my plot and place them on a willow and moss frame to create a fully compostable cross.
I think those childhood adventures collecting wildflowers sparked my interest in flowers and love of the humble primrose.
Do any other villages have a similar tradition? It would be great to know.

Well folks that's a wrap! It has been an extraordinarily busy festive season this year with extra workshops and garlands and installations in addition to the usual wreath orders. Thank you so much to everyone who came to a workshop, ordered a wreath, garland or trusted me to deck their halls 😃. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a very happy new year.

I'm just going to pour myself a large glass of wine and open the chocs. For the next few weeks you will mostly find me on my sofa 😂

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! A time for getting together with family and friends for feasts and frivolity and for the giving and receiving of gifts.

We have so many wonderful, small business in our local area who will all have worked tirelessly over the last few years to keep their head above water during difficult economic times. The greatest gift you can give to them is to spend a little bit of your money with them this Christmas.

Go visit the shops on the high street. Buy your cards from a stall at a Christmas market, head to your local butcher rather than the supermarket.

At Cotswold Veg Box, we take “buying locally” very seriously. We always buy as much of our fruit and veg from local growers as we can! No, not everything we stock is grown locally (this would be impossible at this time of year) but if something is available to us, we’ll make it available to our customers.

At Christmas we also stock a range of extra items, made by local businesses in The Cotswolds.

🧀 We have a range of locally made cheeses, chutneys and crackers

☺️We have locally made Rapeseed and Truffle Oils

🧈Locally made butter

🐝 Local Honey

🥓 We can also deliver meat prepared by our local butcher.

If you’re looking for a way to get local produce onto your table this Christmas, head over to our website and have a look at what’s available.

https://www.cotswoldvegbox.com/build-your-own-christmas-box

All orders must be in before the 17th of December. We’ll deliver them direct to your door on either the 21st, 22nd or 23rd (we’ll confirm exactly when when we’ve got all of the orders on the 18th).

Debbie from Bumblebee Blooms uk only uses locally grown materials to create her beautiful wreaths. Even the bases are hand woven from Willow and Dogwood grown in the cutting garden and from a local willow grower.

We offer two styles of wreath: The ‘Fully Festive’ a fully covered design and ‘Midwinter’ which is part covered to show off those lovely coloured stems on the wreath base.

Each wreath created is unique and will add style and natural beauty to your door this Christmas.

I am thrilled and honoured to share the wonderful news that beautiful, scented, spring flowers from my plot will be part of Flowers from the Farm’s gift to Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla on their Coronation.

Alongside seasonal flowers and foliage from fellow growers in all four nations of the  UK, my blooms will decorate the Quire and the Grave of the Unknown Warrior of Westminster Abbey during Saturday’s Coronation Ceremony.

Flowers from the Farm has been working closely with floral designer and sustainable floristry advocate to bring the beauty, joy and variety of local, seasonal flowers to the heart of this historic occasion.

I am so proud to be a member of Flowers from the Farm, the membership association that champions nearly 1000 independent, artisan growers of local, seasonal cut flowers right across the UK.

The flowers have been grown in harmony with the natural seasons, outdoors and in polytunnels on flower fields, allotments, cutting gardens and walled gardens. Since every plot has its unique growing and weather conditions, the displays in Westminster Abbey of more than 4500 stems will reveal a unique floral tapestry of springtime in the UK.

Flowers from the Farm members teamed up to relay buckets of fresh flowers to local hubs, regional hubs and then onto the main hub in South Gloucestershire, where they were sorted and prepared for Shane Connolly to arrange at Westminster Abbey.

The Coronation marks a landmark moment for the global flower farming movement. It demonstrates that local, seasonal flowers deserve to be seen at state occasions just as much as they do in bridal bouquets, funeral tributes or vases in the home.

God Save the King!

We’re so incredibly happy to have won the itecopeople Environment & Sustainability Award last night at the Chipping Campden Business awards!

A massive thank you to the event sponsors Concierge Medical Practice and organisers Campden Business Forum for putting on such a wonderful event up at Cidermill Theatre last night!

Also a massive thanks to all of our wonderful staff who put in so much hard work and never quibble when we ask them to go the extra yard to help us reach our sustainability goals!

We’ve come a long way in the last few years but still have a long way to go to achieve our goals. Achieving accolades like this along the way remind us that we’re heading in the right direction.

Totally thrilled to have been nominated for a local business award (pretty sure I don't qualify for the Young Entrepreneurs 🤣). These awards make such an impact for a small business like mine. I grow local, sustainable, seasonal flowers for special occasions, weddings, parties, bouquets and farewell flowers. My growing plot is within a few miles of Chipping Campden and I grow all my flowers without the use of pesticides or herbicides. If you like what I do I would love your vote (link is www.chippingcampden.com)

Seasonal flowers from the royal gardens adorn the coffin of Queen Elizabeth II.

.
“At His Majesty The King’s request, the wreath contains flowers and foliage cut from the gardens of Buckingham Palace, Clarence House and Highgrove House.
This includes foliage chosen for its symbolism.
Rosemary for remembrance; Myrtle, the ancient symbol of a happy marriage, and cut from a plant that was grown from a sprig in Her Late Majesty’s wedding bouquet in 1947.
And English oak, which symbolizes the strength of love.
Also included are:
Scented Pelargoniums, garden roses, autumnal hydrangeas, sedum, dahlias, and scabious, all in shades of gold, pink and deep burgundy, with touches of white, to reflect the Royal Standard, on which it sits.
Again at His Majesty’s request, the wreath is made in a totally sustainable way, in a nest of Engish moss and oak branches, and without the use of floral foam.”
