Grief is a not a place to stay

Family is so important for many of us at Christmas and it can bring joy, like this hug from my brother, or you might find yourself facing Christmas with an empty chair at your Christmas table. So I would like to say two things to all who know me. Firstly, thank you for being in my life as family. as a friend, colleague, client, neighbour or follower. You make a difference to my life. And secondly, to say please reach out this Christmas to be ‘family’ to those who are mourning or lonely. Merry Christmas everyone and a big family hug.

Working with a creative and empathetic photographer is a dream job for a Wedding Celebrant. Working with Nick Church was a real bonus. He sent these photos of a recent Wedding of J and D at Clevedon Hall. I would be thrilled to recommend him as he works in the same way as I do, really getting to know the vibe, personalities and values of the couples. Here is what he had to say. "I have a quite unusual approach to my weddings. I always want each one to be unique, and the couple’s photos to really allow their personality and relationship to shine through. It’s why I spend a couple of hours with them before the wedding day. It occurs to me that this is a really good fit for celebrant-led weddings as you want the same things for the ceremony.

We are so excited to be holding the fourth AOIC Celebrant Awards to celebrate the amazing work our members are doing.

Nominations are open until Friday 15th September, with the winners and runners up to be announced at our Awards Dinner following the Conference on Saturday 14th October.

Another snippet of a larger piece on loss. Because we all live with loss, every one of us. And we don’t discuss that pain enough. It’s okay to grieve forever, that’s how long you love. But let’s process that pain as often as we can. We are here to thrive, not simply survive. X

We booked Julie as the celebrant for our wedding. From the very beginning she was warm and friendly and guided us through the process to get a ceremony that fit us perfectly as a couple, with just the right balance of sentiment and humour. Everyone said what a lovely ceremony it was and I would highly recommend Julie to anyone looking for a celebrant.
