Today we are part of a service of remembrance for John Albert Gee, the youngest victim of the Whitwick Mining Disaster .
There have been a few problems.
Daddy Colledge is the only person left who can verify where the grave is and there is no churchyard plan . The authorities were concerned that it might be someone else’s grave.
My father can verify where it is as he can remember the vase his mother placed on it being broken. Eventually it was agreed to put him a wooden cross .
We will keep pushing for the boy to have a proper stone . One step at a time . At thirteen he was sent in to warn his workmates . He died a hero . Poor child 😢
