Why do you bother?
Pete Goodman was asked earlier, why, with all the stress, all the nights of little or no sleep, all the moments of dealing with staff pulling out last minute - why does he continue to actively take a front role in the company, both teaching and working on the front line.
He had a real hard think about it and here is his answer -
"Running a security and training company is no small task.
The demands are constant—coordinating clients, ensuring compliance, managing teams, staying ahead of industry changes, dealing with the last minute pull outs.
The responsibility of delivering high-quality training in security, first aid, conflict management and many other areas means there’s no room for error.
The stress? It’s real. Late nights, tight deadlines, and the ever-present need to adapt to evolving threats and regulations. There are moments when the weight of responsibility feels overwhelming, and you just want to give up.
But the rewards? They make it all worthwhile.
Seeing trainees leave with skills that could save lives. Watching security professionals grow in confidence and capability. Knowing that the work we do directly impacts safety, preparedness, and professionalism in high-risk environments.
The places you work, and events you are part of, and the teams and friendships you create, this is the side of security that makes it worthwhile.
Every challenge brings a lesson. Every long day is an investment in a safer, more skilled workforce. And that’s what keeps the passion alive."
Let me ask all those that are or have been in the industry—what are the biggest challenges you face, and what keeps you going? Let’s share insights and support each other.
