This week is a journey of connections and support for Planet Powers and EA Productions. Tomorrow I am journeying down to Cardiff for some very exciting meetings with a view to finding the perfect space and partners in Cardiff for a tour of The School of Planet Powers.

The aim is to have a 'four points of Wales' tour for 2025...watch this space for more details.

As a creative I am always coming up with new ideas, the long standing idea behind EA Productions is The School of Planet Powers.

However, I sometimes struggle to galvanise people around my ideas and i'm starting to understand why.

Instead of valuing my idea and believing it would be an asset to any organisation or creative individual's career. I'm so grateful for any level of support that anyone may offer because I can't quite believe that people want to back an idea that I came up with in my head.

I'm practicing the art of communicating passion in my projects and the value of them.

We are not in a good time for the Arts, funding is scarce just as it was around 2009. I remember working for a youth theatre when the 2009 recession hit the public sector. The youth theatre had a permanent site with a beautiful theatre and many workshop spaces as well as a dance studio. The dependance on funding baffled me, there were so many resources that could be leveraged for income to continue to support the youth theatre and the space when funding was cut.

The question is can we as artists create self sustaining work that isn't totally dependent on funding? Every day I am exploring this question, under EA Productions I have relied on funding for research and development and the set up of projects as well as running more commercial events that rely on clients buying the experience in. I continue to straddle both the entrepreneurial commercial world and the arts world. However, I approach both in the same way, how can this project generate revenue to sustain the project and everyone that is involved in it?

Spending some time today remembering and recalling the work we did in The School of Planet Powers for Extraordinary Children as we work on shaping the next phase of the project. We are in talks with lots of organisations as we continue to develop the creative side of the project.

This Autumn i'm really excited about putting lots of time aside to be creative and write the script for The School of Planet Powers. You may have noticed some posts about me writing that i've put out, that is me working and developing the script.

You have an idea...you think you have enough skills...a way to monetise that idea and the next thing you know you are filling out the form on the Companies House website and registering your company.

If you are going it alone with no business partner or immediate funds to pay employees you have to be the HR department, Marketing department, PR department, finances, legal, networking, sales, business development as well as creating the product or delivering the service.

Its exciting and challenging every day but you learn so much about yourself, your strengths and your weaknesses, develop new skills and also learn where you need help.

As a child I loved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I actually remember wanting to transform my bedroom into a chocolate and sweet wonderland and then surprise my parents with it, that didn't actually happen but the idea was there! Ever since, i've been interested in re-creating that moment of wonder that the children had when they entered the chocolate room, which was genuine by the way as they had never seen the room before they filmed the scene.

And that is why I want to build worlds, worlds that instigate awe and wonder in the people that experience them. Transporting participants far away to unworldly and magical destinations.

Largely, I work on these projects by myself so the pace of productions can sometimes be frustratingly slow, too slow for my liking. But EA is still a small and growing start up business and with grit and determination, myself and the teams that are built for each project will keep building more and more worlds for people to experience.

For todays writing time I opted for the relative quiet of and a take away coffee. Struggled a bit to concentrate for some reason and found myself procrastinating a lot!! Sometimes it’s difficult to get those creative juices flowing, but moving your body helps move your mind so I’m off for a run 🏃‍♀️
