This is wonderful.
Great to see Dorothy House benefitting alongside Wiltshire Air Ambulance from our recent stické event - two great local charities.
Well done Julian. 🎾
Any stické fans in the house? Julian, who is a volunteer in our IT Team recently took part in the World Stické Championship, getting through three rounds to the final!
Stické, also called stické tennis, is an indoor racquet sport invented in the late 19th century merging aspects of real tennis, racquets and lawn tennis. The court is somewhat similar to a real tennis court in shape, but is smaller and different in construction. Play uses all the basics of lawn tennis and the same scoring system, with the addition of side and back walls, and players face each other over the net in pairs.
There were over 50 courts built throughout the British Empire since 1875. The game was created in the 1870’s as an outdoor game by the Royal Regiment of Artillery to keep soldiers fit. As of 2005 only two playable courts are remaining, one of which is Hartham Park Estate in Corsham, where the event was held, with sponsorship by Champagne Pol Roger.
Julian won a £50 voucher in the match, which he's very generously donating to Dorothy House - thank you, Julian!
