ATTENTION DAHLIA GROWERS! I left at least half of my Dahlia stock in the ground over winter. I covered one bed in straw and another in sheep fleece. The plants mulched in fleece are on average about a foot high and apart from some expected slug damage looking very healthy. The straw mulched bed are only just emerging. Just saying 🐏🐑🐏🐑🐏🐑🐏🐑

There is a debate amongst us flower farmers weather growing tulips, in the light of cheap supermarket produce, can possibly make any money. In my opinion it’s only worth it if our product is better/special/unusual varieties that are not on offer at your average supermarket. Featured in the pics are Flamming Margarite, Cream Cocktail, Averon and Ice wonder. They have all been amazing this year. The weather has helped in keeping supply steady (too warm and they all come at once) and the rain has meant bumber stem lengths. Blessings to the Tulips gods. I’ve harvested my last for the year. The remainder are tightly swaddled in brown paper in the fridge and will be coming out over the weekend to be marvelled at by all my amazing customers.
