Cornfields, orchards, wide open views, giant willow trees, wildflower meadows - you name it, and we're pretty likely to have beautiful day time locations for your photos (OK, I admit - it might be hard to get a sea view from nine miles away!). However, we love it when photographers get creative after dark too, like this beautiful shot of Carina and Matt captured by Matt from I'm not sure how he managed to banish every other guest from the area for a few minutes - but well worth the result!

I love getting to know couples during their wedding planning journey, and it's particularly special when they choose me to conduct their ceremony.Alex and Si had the most beautiful Christmas ceremony, with the whole day masterminded by Phoebe from .

Twinkling lights and candles create a magical atmosphere for winter weddings and who doesn't love a drink in the cozy bar around the flaming wood burning stove?!

See more gorgeous pictures and read more about their joyous day on our website News page today.

Having taken a long time to choose your bouquet style and picked the perfect florist (in this instance ), it's important that your photographer takes some beautiful images of it early in the day to capture its beauty before it gets a little 'bashed about' during proceedings! Here Mark from has used our rather spectacular horse shoe balls as the perfect foil for the colours and textures of the flowers.

By the way - the horse shoe balls were specially made for us by our son's friend . These were some of the first ones he made, so were created using old horse shoes instead of new ones that some use now. Apparently it was a complete pain to remove all the old bent nails, but I love the fact that the shoes are all different sizes and he's made a thing of beauty out of something that would usually be thrown away - recycling at its best!

Now that's what you call a window! Not only does our huge gable end window ensure the Main Hall is flooded with natural daylight during the day, it looks pretty dramatic lit up at night too.

You can use our colour change wall lights to match your theme, but this spectacular effect was created at Nickey and Jack's wedding by -dj-uk who brought along some of their own uplighters to add to the party atmosphere.

Our baby grand piano just proves too tempting for many, so I must say it's in dire need of a tune at the end of the season when so may little hands have been none-too-gentle!However, that's exactly what it's there for - to be played, and enjoyed, and many's the time when I've stood back in amazement, (and quite a bit of jealousy!) when a guest just sits down and makes a rather battered piano sound like the perfect instrument!

A duet stool means that there's room for two to try their hands - or even three, if you squeeze in a flower-girl too!

One of these days, I'll dig out my old music, and start to play again, or better still, move with the times and find a good app to use - does anyone have any recommendations?

Beautiful Bunting..We've seen some absolutely fabulous bunting over the years - such a pretty way to make the most of the scissor beams in the main hall.

Made from lengths of brightly coloured ribbon, to newspaper, to beautifully hand-crafted by members of the family to match your colour theme - anything goes.

And don't worry, we provide you with an extendable lightweight pole so you can hook it up on the hand forged hooks attached to the beams!

Another beautiful day in July this year (there were some...really!) saw Clarissa and Chris making the most of the outdoors for their ceremony.Their chairs were dressed in the softest of blues with pearl clasps by and these were echoed in the beautiful flowers.

I love this picture of them signing the register in The Clock House - looking at each other, as if to say 'what have we just done'; but they look pretty happy about the decision don't you think?

With a bride from Devon and groom from Yorkshire, the bride's Mum and Dad obviously needed a little help during the toast speeches - and very funny they were too!Even if they have since moved away, many of our couples have a link back to Devon and can't resist choosing this beautiful county for their wedding celebrations.

With our fabulous views over the beautiful rolling hills, Harefield Barn really makes you feel you're right in the heart of Devon. Even if Exeter is just 10 by taxi, it seems a world away; and for those who've never experienced this stunning county before - you're in for a treat!

Cheers! The historical origins of raising your glasses in a toast seem to be many and varied, but in general toasts are offered at times of celebration or commemoration, hence why they are usually part of your wedding day.

Although customary to offer a special drink for your guests to toast the health of the happy couple during the speeches, whether you stick with tradition or go for another options is completely up to you.

As they are most often served at the end of the meal, it's likely that everyone has just eaten delicious food and probably had the odd glass or two of wine too, so serving a glass of champagne or Prosecco can sometimes just be too much of a good thing. Sadly, this often means that when guests get up from the tables, an awful lot of the toast drinks go do waste.

A great alternative is just to make sure that there is plenty of wine or soft drinks at the table for guests to top up their glasses, and use that instead. After all, it's 'proposing a toast' to the happy couple and the meaning behind that which is important, rather than the drink itself!

Yesterday I enjoyed the last of the pears from our pear tree. It wasn't a big crop this year, but somehow that made each and every one more enjoyable! They reminded me of this beautifully simple, yet stylish cake set-up created by Phoebe from during an Autumn styled shoot here at Harefield Barn. It shows that with a few simple props, you can create a really stunning frame, not only to show off your cake, but act as the perfect backdrop for cake-cutting photos.

🎃 Happy Halloween! 🎃

Although their wedding was actually the day before Halloween, Naomi and Chris had the fabulous idea of asking all their guests to bring along a carved pumpkin to decorate the terrace.

The pumpkins were then judged, but although I can’t remember who the winners were, there was some pretty impressive creativity on show, and they looked great all lit up in the evening!

The happy couple also used beautiful mini gourds and stunning florals from for their tables and enjoyed some beautiful autumn sunshine too.

Today is actually our own anniversary, but we were married so long ago that Halloween wasn’t invented! Well of course, it was invented, but it certainly hadn’t become the commercial event that it is today; in fact, when we arrived at our hotel on the evening of the wedding, we were surprised to see a halloween party underway - it hadn’t even occurred to us because they were quite unusual then!

No party for us tonight, but we’re looking forward to a delicious dinner out at the , and perhaps the odd glass of something delicious!

Have a great time, whatever you have planned.

Happy ‘Unofficial’ 2nd Anniversary to Mr and Mrs Palmer!Covid really did mess up Catherine and Ray’s original plans, and after a great deal of bumps along the way, they were legally married with just a few guests whilst restrictions were in place, then once everything was ‘back to normal’ they celebrated all over again on this day in 2021!

The weather was kind, so they had an al fresco ceremony on a beautifully sunny Autumn day, which I was honoured to conduct. It included some beautiful singing from their son and his partner and was followed by the most delicious afternoon tea, a quiz and dancing.

And appropriately… Catherine walked in to Etta James singing ‘At Last’!

Best Venue Ever!🥰 Well that’s how Kathy and Cheryl described us in their simply fantastic review. It’s totally impossible to summarise it properly, so I’ve added the whole review to the News page on our website, but in a few words…

“This venue is so beautiful…..we knew this was the one”

“The views are incredible…”

“Everyone complimented the venue - even the toilets”🤭

“…supported you as much or as little as you needed”

“Brides, grooms - please consider Harefield Barn…”

“…perfect for all ages”

“… we couldn’t believe how great our day had gone and how much everyone loved it….it was the greatest feeling to have” 🤗

Wow! Thank you both for your gorgeous comments; we try very hard to make sure each and every couple have their best day, and it’s just the ‘greatest feeling’ for us too when that happens!🙏🏼

Formally cutting a cake at your wedding is a pretty traditional thing to do, and is said to symbolise the first thing the couple do together, and how they will now be sharing everything as a married couple.Having said that, as with all wedding traditions, anything goes these days. Some couples choose not to have a cake at all, and with others, cutting the cake is a quick moment on the way to their first dance. However, it’s also a great photo opportunity, and (within reason!) we can move your cake to somewhere you can make the most of the moment.
For Fran and James we moved outside for a great fun moment in the evening sunshine!
