MHA The Wilderness is open as part of London Open House Festival on Sunday 21st September 12-5pm.

Visit The Wilderness and discover the history of the garden and the remarkable man behind it's creation, The Rev. William Wilks.

You can take part in a guided tour, or use one of our self-guided tours.

We are lucky to have Catherine Pestano from Creative Croydon, who is delivering a singing workshop in the garden and outdoor classroom from 1.30pm. So come along, take part and exercise those vocal chords.

The Flower Fairies trail will be in it's last week, so it's a good opportunity to visit and find our 10 fairies around the garden (family friendly activity).

There are a wide range of plants for sale at very reasonable prices and homemade cakes (vegan options) , including apple cake made from our 'Rev. Wilks' apple tree. 😋

Why not combine your visit with tour of Shirley Windmill, also open 12-5pm.

Join at The Wilderness, as part of summer arts programme to make Ground News - a slow messy, collaged local newspaper, sharing stories by children and families, inspired by the ecologies we find ourselves intertwined within.

Each workshop will have activity stations to make collective 'news reports', guided by heathland plants like Heather and Broom that grow freely in The Wilderness. Processes like monoprinting, DIY photograms using natural developers, writing and photographs will be used to explore and create a collaged newspaper to be shared with participants, families and neighbours and the wider public at a later time.
