I have been a toastmaster since 2017, when I retired from the Civil Service, and have been engaged for the weddings of many couples since then. But why should you engage a toastmaster, don’t they just announce the speeches?
Your Wedding Day is very special, by the time you say “I do” you will probably have spent months and several thousand pounds arranging your dream day. How do you ensure it all happens as you planned it? You want it to be an occasion that you and your guests will remember. There can be hiccups in the best planned events and you need someone who can sort them with the minimum of fuss.
There are several alternatives: leave it to the Best Man or another member of the wedding party, rely on someone your venue provides or engage a professional toastmaster.
Is the first option fair? Members of the wedding party have enough to worry about already, being on time, immaculately dressed, complete with the rings and the speech, and they want to enjoy the day as well.
If the venue provides a member of staff will they be attending on you and your guests whenever you want and need them? Some do engage a professional on your behalf, so be sure to check on what services they provide.
The third option provides you with a dedicated person who is on hand for the whole day. A toastmaster will be at the venue before your guests arrive, direct them to where they need to go, keep them informed about what is happening and when. A toastmaster can help assemble groups ready for photographs, hold your bouquet or drinks if necessary, sort out minor problems without taking them to the couple, and, of course, introduce the speeches and toasts.
All this for less than cost of your wedding cake.
